District 14 – Newsome Continues Its’ Dominance, Will Bloomingdale Catch Up This Year?

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in , , , .
Now we are getting into the territory of where the sport most grew last year, the area east of Tampa down towards the Fort Myers area.  We start with District 14, the long-time provenance of Newsome and last year they continued their streak of district titles and made it to the Round of 16 before bowing to Jesuit of Tampa.  Newsome finished at #19 in the Final FLN Poll. We also are getting into the territory of where Tampa Lax Report also covers previews and since I only got one questionnaire returned so far I will also include the link to TLR’s previews. The MaxPreps District 2018 Records seem incomplete and the new FHSAA school listings have this now as Bloomingdale, Durant, Freedom (Tampa – District 16 last year), Newsome and Wharton (District 16 last year) so there’s been some shuffling in the area. Last season’s Regular Season records via MaxPreps (Note: possibility not all results were uploaded):
School Name *W-L *Pct. W-L Pct. GF GA
Newsome 2-0 1.000 16-3 0.842 273 140
Bloomingdale 3-1 0.750 11-8 0.579 167 143
Durant 0-2 0.000 3-10 0.231 59 147
Tampa Bay Tech 0-0 0.000 0-0 0.000 0 0

Yep, that doesn’t make a lot of sense.  Looks like Wharton was in the District playoff since Bloomingdale beat them in the semifinals according to the Bloomingdale team page??  Tampa Bay Tech looks like it has dropped the sport. I’ll assume the MaxPreps records for ease of use for now. What are your expectations this season for the team? We are in the 5th year of being a varsity team so we are still in our infancy of growth given the fact that we have no neighborhood feeder program. We have enjoyed the program’s first winning season last year and we believe that we can repeat that success annually. We believe that we have the talent to produce a winning squad, and we are looking forward to working hard and earning our spot in the conversation of the Top 10 ranking in the Tampa Bay area.
