District 32 – Key West Should Repeat

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in , , , .
We now get to the geographically most challenged district in the state.  Key West to Florida Christian is 151 miles.  For a DISTRICT game.  Of course, that is the price to pay for growing up in Key West . . . well, that and the hurricane evacuations you have to go through. Key West started from scratch a few years ago and already has surpassed their district rivals, although both Coral Shores games were competitive last season and they gave a solid effort in the FHSAA first round versus Gulliver.  Although they didn’t win any, they did play a nice out of district schedule, with Belen, Western, AH-Plantation and St. Augustine among others, gave them a good grounding.  Will the other schools in the district commit this way to grow their programs? If not then this will be Key West’s district for years to come.

Lucas Villanueva – defense man, best defender as a junior Jake Garcia- Offensive attack, junior that is my best player overall Carlos Rios- Offensive attack, Junior .  He finished strong last year with 8 goals in one game and should have a solid year. Manny Sarmiento – Long stick middy, He is a tenacious defender with speed and will give team fits. Fernando Serrano – Middy , a junior as well that as speed and agility and knows how to score. What players do you expect to step up this year that didn’t get much playing time last year? Lester Martinez –  He is a sophomore, who has by far improved the greatest.  He has a very good chance to be a starting attack from the start of the season. Succes Frederic – Defense man, Sophomore, feisty and physical. He was hurt the whole season with a knee injury, came back last game of the season and had a huge impact on our game defensively. What are the games you are really looking forward to this season? Answer: Key West, St. Brendan, and Westminster
