Chiles’ lacrosse team was in the position it hoped to be in – holding a one-goal lead entering the fourth quarter of Friday night’s district championship at Maclay and stretching the lead to two.
Then Maclay junior Sam Chase took over, helping the Marauders tie the score and take the lead in the game’s last minute.
Chase finished with eight of Maclay’s 11 goals, leading an 11-9 win over the Timberwolves to capture the district title.
It’s the Marauders’ seventh district title in the past eight years. Last year’s title win by Chiles over Maclay was vacated for using an ineligible player.
