Florida Tech Women Set for Rematch with Limestone in Friday’s NCAA First Round Game

Panthers and Saints set to meet for second time this season on Friday at 3 p.m. in opening game of South Regional at Moccasin Field

  MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Florida Tech women’s lacrosse team will battle Limestone in the first round of the 2018 NCAA Division II Women’s Lacrosse Tournament on Friday, May 11, at Florida Southern’s Moccasin Field in Lakeland, Florida. FIT defeated Limestone, 18-14, in a hard fought matchup earlier this season on Feb. 23 in Gaffney, South Carolina. The Panthers (16-2) are the No. 2 seed in the South Region while the Saints (17-2) are the third seed. The winner of Friday’s matchup will face Florida Southern, who earned the No. 1 seed in the region, on Saturday, May 12, at Moccasin Field. Florida Tech, which is in its fourth season as a program, is making its second straight appearance in the NCAAs. The Crimson & Gray defeated East Stroudsburg, 17-10, in last year’s first round game before falling to Florida Southern in quarterfinals. The Panthers have set a program record for wins this season, including eight victories over ranked opponents. FIT landed nine players on the All-Sunshine State Conference teams this season as well, including sophomore Lauren Tybor who was named the SSC Player of the Year. Limestone is riding a 10-game winning streak into its first NCAA tournament appearance since 2014. Overall, the Saints have made the tournament nine times, including National Championship game appearances in 2011 and 2013. Saint’s head coach Scott Tucker was voted the Conference Carolinas Coach of the Year this season, while senior Shannon Sisk earned her second consecutive Offensive Player of the Year award.
