Rebecca Sheinfeld Hired as Women’s Lacrosse Coach

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. — Methodist University Vice President and Director of Athletics Dave Eavensonproudly announced the hiring of Rebecca Sheinfeld as the Monarchs’ women’s lacrosse head coach on Tuesday. “I would like to thank President Hancock, Dave Eavenson, and DeeDee Jarman for the opportunity to join the Methodist University community,” said Sheinfeld. “The opportunity to be part of the women’s lacrosse program and work towards academic and athletic excellence on and off the field is something that excites me, and I’m proud to be a part of it.” Sheinfeld has spent the past two seasons as the graduate assistant at Messiah College, helping the Falcons to a pair of MAC Commonwealth Conference titles and two NCAA Tournament appearances. In addition to assisting on both the offensive and defensive sides of the ball, Sheinfeld worked in all aspects of recruiting, as well as the development and management of special events such as the 20th Anniversary Celebration and the team’s clinics and camps. Following her first season at Messiah, she served a summer internship in the Office of Academic Support in Athletics at Villanova University. “We are excited to announce Rebecca Sheinfeld as our new head women’s lacrosse coach,” said Eavenson. “Coach Sheinfeld comes to us from a highly successful Division III women’s lacrosse program with an excellent collegiate coaching, playing and recruiting background. The Falcons were ranked as high as No. 4 nationally in 2017 and advanced to round of 16. In 2018, Messiah was ranked as high as No. 12 and had six all-conference selections, including the conference Defensive Player of the Year. “She has a great vision and plan for the future of our women’s lacrosse program,” Eavenson added. “Coupled with her dynamic personality and contagious enthusiasm, the future is bright for our women’s lacrosse program under her leadership.” Prior to attending Messiah to pursue her master’s degree in higher education, Sheinfeld was a member of Campbell University’s inaugural women’s lacrosse team. A four-year letterwinner for the Camels, Sheinfeld appeared in 65 games with 57 starts in her career. She was served as a team captain during her junior and senior seasons and wrapped up her career with 42 goals, 19 assists, 68 ground balls and 44 draw controls playing primarily in the midfield. She graduated with a B.S. in exercise and sports science. Sheinfeld added, “I can’t wait to meet our student-athletes and begin our work to reach our goals within the USA South Conference. Go Monarchs!” Sheinfeld is expected to assume her duties on June 11.
