via FSC press release   DAYTONA BEACH, FL – Florida Southern College women’s lacrosse scored 10 goals in the first seven minutes of action en route to a 20-6 victory over Embry-Riddle in Sunshine State Conference action on Saturday at the ERAU Lacrosse Field. The Moccasins (13-1, 3-1 SSC) dominated the Eagles (7-7, 1-2) from start to finish in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Six different players scored at least two goals for the Mocs, led by Emily Santoli‘s four goals. Mary Gately picked up her fifth win for Florida Southern, which bounced back in a big way after suffering its first loss of the season on Wednesday. The Moccasins’ offensive outburst on Saturday marked the seventh time this season that FSC has scored at least 20 goals. HOW IT HAPPENED • Florida Southern wasted no time in getting on the board as Meghan O’Brien put home the first goal of the game just 25 seconds into action. Marina Jozokos scored just 39 seconds later, and the rout was on. Jozokos would strike again a little more than three minutes later, and Santoli would tally a hat trick within the first seven minutes of action as the Mocs led 10-0 before Embry-Riddle finally got on the board with 21:53 to go in the first half. • After the Eagles scored their first goal the Mocs responded with three-straight, including two from Aubrianna Benedetto, to take a 13-1 lead with 15:41 on the clock. ERAU would strike for three more goals over the next 14 minutes, but Florida Southern ended the half when Grace Glinecki scored on a free-position shot with 1:20 left in the first to make it 14-4 at the break. • The second half started off much the same way as the first as the Moccasins scored three times before the Eagles could respond. Benedetto would get on the board one more time in the game’s final 20 minutes, while Riley Bannatyne would score two times in the second half. All three of Florida Southern’s goalkeepers saw time in goal, with Alanna Zambetti netting a team-high five saves. • Florida Southern finished with a 32-16 advantage in shots, won 19-of-28 draw controls, and converted 5-of-9 free-position shots. Santoli ended the day with four goals, while O’Brien and Dani Bursinger each had two. Bursinger led all players with six draw controls, while three different Moccasins grabbed two ground balls. INSIDE THE NUMBERS • Florida Southern improved to 1-0 all-time against Embry-Riddle, which is in its first year of women’s lacrosse. The Moccasins improved to 15-1 all-time in regular-season games against Sunshine State Conference opponents. • Santoli scored at least three goals for the 10th time this season, including each of the last seven games. Benedetto’s hat trick is her second of the season. UP NEXT • Florida Southern will host Saint Leo on Tuesday at 7 p.m. before heading to Belmont Abbey (April 13) and Lenoir-Rhyne (April 15) for its final non-conference games of the year. The Mocs wrap up the regular season at home against Palm Beach Atlantic on April 21.
