via FSC press release   LAKELAND, FL – Meghan O’Brien recorded her 110th career goal as Florida Southern College women’s lacrosse defeated Seton Hill 17-6, on Saturday at Moccasin field in game one of a doubleheader. The No. 1 Moccasins (4-0) jumped out to a 3-1 lead over the Griffins (1-1) early in the first 10 minutes of the game behind two unassisted goals by Meghan O’Brien and another by Casey O’Brien. In the second game of Saturday’s twinbill, the Mocs took down Tusculum, 22-7. Florida Southern raced out to a 6-0 lead and never looked back as it topped the Pioneers (2-4) in the first-ever meeting between the two programs. Aubriana Benedettoopened the scoring for Florida Southern with a goal just 29 seconds in, and the Mocs raced to an 18-5 halftime lead. HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST SETON HILL • Seton Hill’s Courtney Pontious opened the scoring early in the first minute of action. Florida Southern would answer with four goals as Meghan O’Brien scored back-to-back goals six minutes apart, while Casey O’Brien and Julia Couch also found the back of the net. The Moccasin defense was on point in the first half as it limited the Griffins to just six shots in the half. • The Moccasins closed out the first half with five unanswered goals from five different players including a man-up goal from Sam Keesey, her first on the season. Moccasin goalkeeper Alanna Zambetti was rarely tested in the first half, facing just three shots. • The second half started the same way as the first as the Griffins would get on the board in the first minute before Florida Southern would answer with a flurry of goals. In the span of 48 seconds, what seemed liked déjà vu, Marina Jozokos scored a pair of goals both assisted by Meghan O’Brien. • Florida Southern finished with a 40-16 advantage in shots and a 14-10 edge in draw controls. Florida Southern completed 20-of-23 clear attempts and scored on 3-of-8 free-position attempts. HOW IT HAPPENED AGAINST TUSCULUM • Florida Southern dominated the Pioneers from start to finish. Benedetto scored twice in the opening three minutes of action, while Sarah Grady, Riley Bannatyne, Julia Couch and Brianna Becker would also find the back of the net in the first 10 minutes of play. Tusculum would the next four goals, but the Moccasins close the half on a 10-1 run to make it 18-5 at the half. • The Mocs would tack on four more goals in the second half while the Pioneers scored twice to make the final 22-7. Benedetto, Couch, and Catherine DeKorte each scored three times in the game, while Mary Gately earned her first career win in goal with five saves in the first half. Brittany Iamele played all of the second halves and made six stops. • Florida Southern finished with a 33-20 edge in shots and a 20-9 advantage in draw controls. The Mocs picked up 19 ground balls, completed 19-of-22 clears, and connected on 5-of-7 free-position shots during the contest. INSIDE THE NUMBERS • For just the third time in program history, Florida Southern has opened its season 3-0 (2012, 2014). The Mocs are now 4-0 all-time against Seton Hill. Head coach Kara Reber improved her career coaching record to 170-68, including a 102-20 record with the Moccasins. Saturday’s contest against Tusculum was the first-ever meeting between the Moccasins and Pioneers. • Florida Southern improved to 66-11 all-time in home games, including 3-0 at Moccasin Field and 63-11 at Bryant Stadium (2012-17).
