MAAC Presidents Approve Schedules for Spring Sports
EDISON, NJ (Jan. 20, 2021) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) today has announced that the MAAC Council of Presidents have approved spring competition schedules for the sports of soccer, volleyball, water polo, baseball, softball, and lacrosse. Competition is to start no sooner than Mar. 6 for these sports. MAAC member and associate member institutions will begin posting their respective schedules over the upcoming days.
“The MAAC is excited to have spring schedules for soccer, volleyball, water polo, baseball, softball, and lacrosse finalized,” said MAAC Commissioner Rich Ensor. “Many different parties, including administrators, coaches, athletic training personnel, facilities staff, and MAAC staff were involved in bringing these schedules to life in the challenging environment presented by the COVID-19 pandemic. Without them, this wouldn’t be possible. The conference schedules and championship formats incorporate reductions made necessary by the pandemic, but the MAAC membership is excited to move forward with this opportunity for all of our student-athletes and hope to have a great spring season of competition.”
In addition, the MAAC has officially announced that the 2020-21 Cross Country Championships will take place on Mar. 5 at the Seaview Golf Club in Galloway, New Jersey. Cross country competition is allowed to commence before the Mar. 6 start date set by the MAAC Council of Presidents due to the NCAA Championship deadline for the sport being on Mar. 5.
Joe Compagni, former decorated Director/Head Coach of Cross Country and Track and Field at Monmouth University, will help oversee the championships from an operations standpoint. The event, taking place a few days before the Hercules Tires MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships, will be sponsored by the Atlantic City Sports Commission.
“The MAAC is thrilled to officially announce the Seaview Resort and Golf Club as this year’s host of the MAAC Cross Country Championships,” added Ensor. “Given the challenges of finding a suitable venue for the championship being held in a non-traditional time of year because of the pandemic, the MAAC was fortunate that Atlantic City and the sports commission stepped up with this site. I’d like to thank former Monmouth University coach Joe Compagni for his help and guidance in this process, as well as the Atlantic City Sports Commission for their continued support of MAAC sports. The MAAC looks forward to hosting another first-class event that our student-athletes can be proud of as they seek to qualify for the NCAA Championships.”
