via Webber Intl press release   BABSON PARK, Fla. (January 20, 2021) – After a year and a half of preparation and anticipation, the Webber International University men’s lacrosse team is set to begin its inaugural season of competition this Spring. Under the leadership and vision of Head Coach Chris Burdick, the Warriors look to take aim at a schedule that will challenge the team early and often. Webber’s inaugural schedule will see the Warriors compete against nationally-ranked NAIA teams such as No. 1 Reinhardt University, No. 2 Keiser University, No. 3 the University of the Cumberlands, and No. 7 SCAD University. The Warriors will open their inaugural campaign as a member of the Appalachian Athletic Conference. With the addition of Webber as the first institution from the state of Florida to be a part of the AAC, the conference will now have eight teams competing in men’s lacrosse. Also competing in the AAC in men’s lacrosse will be Cumberlands, Montreat, Point, Reinhardt, SCAD Savannah, St. Andrews, and Tennessee Wesleyan. In the AAC Men’s Lacrosse Preseason Coaches’ Poll, the Warriors received 49 points and were selected to finish sixth. “We are looking forward to the spring and having a great group of young men who are working extremely hard to build the foundation for the program here at Webber,” spoke Coach Burdick. “Our inclusion in the AAC will challenge us as a young program with the current national champion and possibly four to five total nationally ranked teams in the top 10, this will be a great opportunity for us to play the best in the NAIA in our first season.” After a scrimmage at home against IMG Academy (Jan. 22) and an exhibition game also at home against NCAA Division-II Flagler College (Feb. 6) to open the season, Webber’s first ever regular-season game for men’s lacrosse will come at home on Saturday, February 13, at 1 p.m. in a conference game against Cumberlands. In all, Webber’s regular-season schedule will see the Warriors play at home in five of their nine regular-season games, including back-to-back home games against Montreat and Keiser to close out the year before the postseason. Men’s lacrosse is still considered an invitational sport within the NAIA. The three conferences include the Appalachian Athletic Conference, the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference and the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. Select Webber men’s lacrosse games will feature live stats and live video of the action, so check out our Stretch Internet and Live Events pages for all of the details.
