IWLCA: Maryland is Unanimous #1 in D1 Coaches Poll; Gators Rise to #3!

 via the IWLCA web site The first regular season IWLCA Division I Coaches Poll features the University of Maryland as the unanimous number one ranked team. The Terps opened the 2018 season with an 18-7 win over unranked William & Mary and followed that up with 16-14 victory over the #3 Florida Gators. Sitting at #2 is Stony Brook University, who notched a 14-10 victory over Southern California, ranked sixth in the poll. A pair of ACC teams sit in the fourth and fifth spot, as Syracuse (2-0) and Boston College (3-0) are both undefeated. North Carolina (2-1) is ranked seventh, followed by James Madison (3-0) at number eight, Princeton (1-0) at nine, and Navy (2-0) in the tenth position.Notable Top-25 games this week include Stony Brook at #24 Stanford on Monday, while #23 Loyola visits #22 Johns Hopkins, and Boston College is at Massachusetts (#19) on Wednesday. The weekend’s slate kicks off with Southern California at #18 Notre Dame on Friday, and is followed by several big games on Saturday, including top-ranked Maryland at #7 North Carolina, Penn (#14) hosting Johns Hopkins, #17 Cornell at #12 Penn State, Duke (#13) at #25 Virginia Tech, and #9 Princeton hosting #16 Virginia. Loyola visits Florida, Northwestern (#15) hosts Southern California, Elon (RV) visits Notre Dame, and Denver (#21) tangles with Stony Brook on Sunday.

 The 2018 Coaches Poll has been expanded to include 25 teams in all three NCAA Divisions this year in order to more accurately reflect the growth of the game at the collegiate level in recent years. The Coaches Polls are published every Monday during the regular season.
