JU Women: Dolphins Run Past Howard to Fifth-Straight Win 24-3

  via JU press release   JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — With its fifth-straight win, Jacksonville University rolled to a 24-3 victory over Howard In ASUN Conference action on Friday afternoon at D.B. Milne Field. The win also marks the fourth time this season the Dolphins have posted 20 or more goals against an opponent. “I’m really proud of our team for their ball movement today. Having 15 goal scorers is a credit to the team depth and their playing unselfishly,” stated head coach Mindy McCord. “We have been amping up our draw game considerably and we have some good mojo happening there. We are a very difficult team to beat when we get the draw and we know that is our key to success.” Fifteen different Dolphins (10-3, 3-0 ASUN) posted at least one point, as junior Erin McGuire led the team with six points (1 goal, 5 assists), while senior Ashtyn Hiron (4g), freshman Emma Wisdom (4g), sophomore Parker Day (2g, 2a), and sophomore Genie Santarpio (1g, 3a) added four points each. Jacksonville got on the board early and often with a 4-0 run. Hiron notched four goals in less than three minutes with after she buried passes from McGuire (23:30) and Santarpio (22:53), and added back-to-back free position goals at 21:01 and 20:47 following a Bison goal at 22:14. Hiron’s pair of goals from the eight-meter line opened up a 12-0 run for the Dolphins as freshman Jenny Kinsey (2g, 1a) and McGuire (3a) added three points during that run. Howard (1-8, 0-3 ASUN) closed out the half with its second goal of the game with 2:43 showing on the clock as Jacksonville led 16-2 at the break. The Dolphins and Bison exchanged goals to break open the second half, and the Dolphins added seven more for the final 24-3 win. Wisdom added a hat trick during that run, while Day added a goal and an assist. Graduate goalie Emily Poelma and junior goalie Kristen Brunoforte split time in the crease, with Poelma earning the start and picking up the win to improve to 7-2 on the year. Jacksonville outshot Howard 59-4, with a 25-7 advantage on ground balls and a 21-6 lead in draw controls. Natia Warren tallied two of the Bison’s three goals, while goalie Amerra Sheckles totaled 18 saves between the pipes. The Dolphins return to action tomorrow, April 14 when they take on Delaware State at 5 p.m.
