All 25 players who dressed saw action for the Hatters (3-10) as they matched their season high in goals. Fourteen different players scored goals for Stetson, with Maddie Holvey and Devon McKercher leading the way with three each. Five different players dished assists. The Hatters wasted no time in taking the lead against Delaware State (0-10), as Holvey won the opening draw and raced down the middle of the field, scoring the game’s first goal just 23 seconds in. After the Hornets knotted the game at 1-1, the Hatters went on to score the game’s next 20 goals. Hallie Merz, who tied Stetson’s career points record on Friday, helped guide Stetson’s offense throughout much of the game, tallying a career-high six assists. Leading 14-1 at halftime, the Hatters were able to get their reserves plenty of action in the second half. McKercher scored all of her goals after halftime, and Marina Rotella added a pair off the bench as well. Fellow freshman Tyler Leon scored her first career goal, while Sarah Trupp and Audrey Tatge notched their first goals of the season. Liza Diamond and Kiera McCarthy shared time in goal for the Hatters. McCarthy made four saves in her 33 minutes of play while Diamond stopped one shot. Both allowed one goal each. As the score indicates, the Hatters completely dominated play. Stetson out-shot the Hornets, 37-11, and had more ground balls (24-10), more draws (13-12) and fewer turnovers (13-20). The Hatters return to ASUN Conference play on Sunday when they host Howard. Due to expected inclement weather, the start of the game has been moved to 10 a.m. About Stetson University Athletics: Stetson University’s Athletics Program has a vision of developing a culture of champions athletically, academically and within the community.
