JU Women: Hiron Earns Back-to-Back ASUN Player of the Week Honors

  via JU press release   LAKE POINT, Ga. – For the second straight week, Ashtyn Hiron has taken home ASUN Conference Player of the Week honors for Jacksonville University women’s lacrosse, as announced by the league Tuesday afternoon. In a pair of victories over Furman (March 29) and Wofford (March 31) last weekend, the senior captain accumulated 14 points (10 goals, 4 assists) en route to leading the Dolphins (7-3) to a new program record for single-game scoring. Hiron’s five goals and one assist led the Dolphins to a 19-7 win at Furman in the weekend-opener. Along with three ground balls, she won five draw controls and caused three turnovers. Two days later, the Perth, Western Australian native matched her career highs in points (8) and draw controls (11), seeing less than 30 minutes of action, to lead Jacksonville to its record-setting performance in a 29-7 victory at Wofford. Converting 10 of 13 free position shots on the year, Hiron leads the ASUN and ranks third in the nation with a .769 free-position percentage. She also leads the league in points per game (4.67) and ranks second in caused turnovers per game (1.89), draw controls per game (5.89), goals (32), and points (42). As a team, the Dolphins rank in the top five nationally in points per game (24.80 – 2nd), assists per game (8.49 – 2nd), scoring offense (16.40 – 4th), and shots on goal per game (12.90 – 3rd). It is Hiron’s fourth ASUN Player of the Week honor this season, and fifth overall. Hiron and the rest of the Dolphins return to action this weekend, opening the ASUN slate on Friday, April 6 at Old Dominion (4 pm), followed by a rematch of last year’s ASUN Tournament final on Sunday, April 8 at Coastal Carolina (1 pm).
