Launch’s Tucker Durkin Signs One-Year Contract Extension

via Florida Launch press release, photo via Launch web site   The Florida Launch have agreed to a one-year contract extension with the reigning Major League Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Year Tucker Durkin. Durkin, drafted third overall in 2013 by the Charlotte Hounds, has been a franchise cornerstone for the Launch since being acquired in 2014. The Johns Hopkins product is one of the most decorated defenseman in the league as he is a five-time All-MLL team selection and four-time All-Star. The contract extension comes after Durkin opted to not seek other team’s offers through MLL Player Movement. Under the league’s movement policy, players with at least five consecutive years of experience can negotiate with any franchise if said player declared his intentions to do so by Sept. 22. “For me, my decision not to enter was pretty simple. I feel deeply invested in the success and future of the Florida Launch organization,” said Durkin. “As a guy that has been here since the organization started, I feel great about where we are headed and I want to continue to be part of it. My teammates and coaches were the main drivers in my decision to stay. I enjoy the atmosphere, the culture, and the guys that I play with. We have a great group that is enjoyable to be around and cares about winning.” With the Launch returning to FAU Stadium for the 2018 season, Durkin feels that the fans are a major factor in his return to Boca Raton. “The Launch fans have been awesome to play in front of, their support makes our experience a special one. Fans can expect to see a team that is fun to watch and that is going to leave everything they have on the field to win,” said Durkin. “I enjoy interacting with the fans and I am certainly thankful for their support through the years and moving forward. The Florida fans have been great to play in front of and I look forward to an even more successful 2018 campaign with their support.” The 2017 season marked Tucker Durkin’s first as Co-Captain of the Launch, a role he shared with fellow veteran Steven Brooks. After making it to the team’s first playoff game, Durkin and company are ready to face the season ahead while bringing an exciting product to South Florida. “We feel that we have unfinished business to take care of in 2018. While a trip to the playoffs this past year cannot be overlooked, we are setting out to win a championship,” said Durkin. “I think that’s the goal for any player, team, or competitor that I know of at least. With that being said, there is a lot that we need to accomplish individually and collectively before that happens. I’m excited to get back with my teammates, coaches, and the Launch organization. Cannot wait till 2018, and fired up to be back in a Launch jersey.” For more articles, behind-the-scenes content, and more, be sure to follow the Launch on FacebookTwitter and Instagram .
