Lizards Acquire Brendan Fowler in Trade with Charlotte

BOSTON (October 12, 2017) – The New York Lizards on Thursday acquired faceoff specialist Brendan Fowler from the Charlotte Hounds in exchange for midfielder Jacob Richard and a second-round selection in the 2018 MLL Collegiate Draft. Fowler, 25, is a two-time All-Star who has spent all four of his professional seasons in Charlotte. Last year, he won 156 of 328 faceoffs (48%) and tallied career highs in goals (9), assists (4) and points (13). He won a career-best 50 percent (207 of 411) of his faceoffs in 2015 and has won 49 percent of his faceoffs (583 of 1199) in his career. Drafted by Charlotte out of Duke with the 13th pick in the 2014 Collegiate Draft, Fowler registered 14 goals and seven assists for 21 points in 45 career games for the Hounds. He is a native of Wantagh, N.Y. and attended Chaminade High School, which is approximately five miles away from James Shuart Stadium, the home of the Lizards. Richard, 24, appeared in 11 games for New York last season and scored two goals with 14 groundballs in his second year with the club. As a rookie in 2016, Richard had two goals and two assists in nine games and picked up 11 groundballs. New York selected him in the fourth round of the 2016 Collegiate Draft out of Marquette.
