via Lynn press release   Gaffney, S.C. – Despite controlling the battle in shots, faceoffs and ground balls, Lynn University’s lacrosse team was unable to keep up with a hungry ninth-ranked Limestone College squad as the Fighting Knights suffered their first loss of the year, 16-6. The Saints went up 6-1 in the first quarter and posted another 6-1 run coming out of halftime to set the tone for the afternoon. • Stephen Polsinelli scored the first Lynn goal of each half and was the only Fighting Knight to tally a multi-point game. Five of his seven shot attempts hit the frame and the senior picked up two ground balls. Polsinelli has scored twice in each of Lynn’s games so far this season.
• Xander Cosenza, Mikey Urso, Conrad Rhein and Nick Howard all found the back of the net to round out Lynn’s goal scorers.
• Collin McClelland played the full 60 minutes between the pipes, recording nine saves and two ground balls.
• Dryden Brous had another solid outing at the X, winning 15-of-21 faceoffs with a team-high eight ground balls. Teammate Christopher Lasprogata won two of his four attempts.
• Ben Jackson, Mark Pryor, Greg Morissette, Chase Stokes, Cody Bartusiak and Urso all notched a caused turnover.
• Urso and Rhein picked up five ground balls apiece while Drew Custance logged three.
• Lynn won the battle in shots (45-34), faceoffs won (17-8) and ground balls (39-31).
• Limestone’s netminder Cole Aikens had a big day with 18 saves.

  BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

• All six of Lynn’s goals were unassisted.
• Lynn and Limestone have met each of the past three years.
• Limestone opened the season with losses to No. 7 Lenoir-Rhyne and No. 7 Tampa, marking the program’s first 0-2 start to a campaign since 1992.
• A program with a storied history, Limestone has been in the NCAA National Championship game each of the past four years, winning two.
• Today’s 16-6 final is an identical score to when the two teams first met in Gaffney in 2016.
• Freshman Jacob Couvertier made his Lynn debut.
• Limestone opened up the season ranked No. 1 in the country.
