PBA: Women’s Lacrosse Earns First Victory 20-11!

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s lacrosse scored early and often as they picked up their first win in program history on Saturday evening, defeating Shorter 20-11.

The ‘Fish (1-2) scored three times in the first 2:31 as Dom Barber scored two of her five goals on the night. She added an assist on Grace Bartlinski‘s goal, the first of the game, as Bartlinski assisted on both of Barber’s goals.

Shorter (0-2) tied the game at 5-5 late in the first half before the ‘Fish scored four of the final five goals of the half to take a 9-6 lead into halftime. The final goal of the half came from Chanel Nassir who scored right before the horn sounded.

After the Hawks scored the first two goals of the second half to make it a one goal game, the Sailfish scored four straight and held Shorter to just three goals the rest of the way. Bartlinski scored five times in the second half to finish with a game-high six goals.

In addition to Barber’s five goals she finished the game with three assists. In total six players scored for the Sailfish with Morgan LeBlanc and Julia del Carmen each scoring three times. They both also had an assist. Chanel Nassiradded two goals and an assist with Kate LeBlanc scoring a goal late in the game off an assists from her sister.

Sarah Vernarelli made the start in goal and picked up a win as she made 10 saves in the game. The Sailfish outshot Shorter 38-30 and put 28 attempts on goal. The ‘Fish dominated the draw control, winning 22 of the 32 with Alyssa Yates leading the with nine.

The Sailfish will be back in action on Monday as they take on Davenport at home at 4 p.m.
