Maclay’s Sam Chase Named to IL Men’s Rising Sophomore Watch List

On March 18, 2016, Brennan O’Neill’s commitment to Penn State went public. His was the first eighth grade commitment in men’s lacrosse. A little more than a year later, the NCAA had implemented rule changes intended to eliminate the possibility of a player ever committing that early again. O’Neill represents both sides of the early recruiting debate. On one hand, news about his commitment spread quickly. O’Neill had already made a name for himself with his performance at the 2015 Warrior World Series of Youth Lacrosse, in which he led Team 91 Crush to a championship, and so lacrosse fans were excited to find out where he’d continue his career. Critics of early recruiting were alarmed by the accelerating pace of young commitments.
