MLL: Cannons Exhaust Launch in Close One Goal Battle, 16-15

via the Launch press release   In need of a win, the Florida Launch traveled to Boston to face the Cannons and come up one goal shy of their third win of the season. A fast start for the Launch started with Connor Buczek’s first two-point goal of his 2018 season and only second two-point goal scored by the team all year. Buczek ended with four points off three goals and the one two-point shot early on. As the first half went back and forth, Kieran McArdle led the team in scoring with three goals and two assists in the loss. Second year star, Dylan Molloy followed, contributing three goals and one assist. Face-off specialist Ben Williams put up an excellent showing in the first half, starting off 7 for 9 in the first 15 minutes of the game, against MLL rookie Trevor Baptiste. As the game progressed, the face-off battle evened out. Williams ended his night winning 53% of the draws overall.

Florida was up by one at half, yet Boston came out of the break to outscore the boys in yellow and blue, 8-3 to take the Cannons lead to as much as a four by the start of the fourth quarter. However, the Launch would not be put away so easily. Connor Buczek found the back of the net two consecutive times to tighten the Boston lead to just two with 12:30 left in the final fifteen minutes of play. Yet, after a number of sloppy offensive plays and turnovers, the Cannons regained momentum. Midfielder Nick Mariano took charge in the last ten minutes of the game, scoring two goals, his second at the 30-second mark made it a one goal game.

In the loss, Bryan Cole and Mike Tagliaferri both scored one goal apiece, while Austin Kaut kept the team in it for most of the game, stopping 14 of the 29 shots on cage. On the defensive side, Mike Unterstein led the team with four groundballs. The Launch continue their four game road trip schedule next Saturday at rival New York on the campus of Hofstra University. Game is set for face-off at 7PM.
