PBA: Comeback Stopped Short For Men’s Lax in 10-9 Loss to Coker
HARTSVILLE, S.C. – A late fourth quarter comeback came up just short for Palm Beach Atlantic men’s lacrosse on Saturday night as the ‘Fish fell to Coker 10-9.
PBA (2-3) scored two goals in the final eight minutes to cut the deficit to one and had several chances down the stretch to find the tying goal but were unable to find the back of the net. Coker (3-2) held on despite being outscored 5-3 in the second half thanks to seven second quarter goals.
The Sailfish took the first lead with a Brendan Fischergoal with 57 seconds left in the first quarter. The Cobras responded with three straight to start the second and wound up scoring seven of the next eight to take a 7-2 lead. Anthony Cresto and Jackson Miller scored before the break as the Sailfish went into halftime down 7-4.
Trevor Keena scored his two goals in the third as the ‘Fish pulled within one at 8-7 as Miller notched his second of the day. Trent Parker and Blake Israel added the final two goals for PBA but the ‘Fish couldn’t send the game into overtime.
Zack Figura added a goal and an assist for the ‘Fish with Cresto also tallying an assist along with his goal. Ted Hollander added an assist in the game as well. Ben Savick made nine saves in goal for PBA.
Coker converted on all three extra man opportunities – all coming in the second quarter – while PBA converted two of three.
The ‘Fish continue their road trip through South Carolina with a trip to Newberry on Monday at 7 p.m.
