PBA: Women’s Lacrosse Drops Opener to Lincoln Memorial

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – Palm Beach Atlantic women’s lacrosse was unable to pick up their first win of the season as they played their inaugural varsity game against Lincoln Memorial. The Railsplitters came away with the victory 19-13 after the Sailfish took early leads.

PBA (0-1) struck first as Morgan LeBlanc scored the first goal in program history three minutes in. LMU (1-0) answered with three straight before Grace Bartlinskiscored two straight to even the score at 3-3. Bartlinski finished with a game-high six goals and seven points.

After LMU took the lead back the ‘Fish answered with two more to retake the lead at 5-4. First it was Kate LeBlanc who scored the man-up goal at 10:37 followed by Dom Barber‘s first goal just over a minute later. Julia del Carmen assisted on both, part of her three-assist night.

The Railsplitters responded in a big way, scoring three goals within 30 seconds to retake the lead. They added three more late as PBA trailed 10-5 at halftime.

Julia del Carmen scored her first goal early in the second half to pull the ‘Fish within four. Moments later it was Bartlinski adding another to cut the margin to three. The ‘Fish were never able to get any closer on the night. LMU pushed the lead out to nine later in the half before PBA scored three late goals to give the final score of 19-13.

The Sailfish managed to outshoot LMU, firing off 35 attempts to 31 for the Railsplitters. Both teams put 26 shots on goal with PBA’s Dani Brickhaus making seven saves. PBA struggled on free position attempts, recording just one goal on 13 attempts. LMU was more successful, converting six of nine.

The ‘Fish have a short turnaround as they host UC Colorado Springs on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Rinker Athletic Campus.
