Coach Richard Kaetzel’s Blog – Starting Up A New Program Windermere High School!

Author’s Note:  Windermere High, not to be confused with Windermere Prep, is a new school built to be a ‘relief’ school for West Orange.  Frankly I don’t remember that term being used before, or maybe I don’t pay attention, but the new school gives another opportunity for a new program and former Ocoee head coach Richard Kaetzel has stepped into the spot as head coach.  Just like Mo Asif at Northside Christian, Coach Kaetzel agreed to do a blog about what starting up his program is like.  Here’s his first submission!
After months of negotiation, it was announced that a new relief school would be built just south of Orlando in Windermere. I jumped at the chance to be a part of the new school and I was especially excited to be hired as the lacrosse coach and be a part of building the lacrosse program there. The administration has been very supportive. Before the program even started, they had already done the most tedious part of coaching by taking care of ordering all of the necessities, like goals and equipment.     All that was left to do was inventory and prep but with supportive parents and invested players we had inventory done, decals on helmets, and goals built in no time. We finally kicked off our practices last week and I was happy to see that the players had great attitudes, were eager to learn, and just as excited as I was about being a part of the inaugural team. I could tell from the start that this was going to be a tight knit group of parents and players as the parents put on an awesome holiday party to help build team camaraderie and stepped up to plan a successful parent meeting. It feels great to be prepared and things are already shaping up to be the start of a great inaugural season.
