Pine Crest 2018 Jacob Shiff Commits to Haverford College!

Congratulations to Jacob on his college choice and good luck in the future!   Name Jacob Shiff High School Pine Crest School Graduation Year 2018 College Choice Haverford College Club Affiliations Florida National Team Why did you choose this college? I chose Haverford College because of the great academic and athletic experience they have to offer there as well as the tremendous sense of community present on campus. What are your first memories of the sport? My first memory of lacrosse was ironically enough, not wanting to go to the first practice. At the time (4th grade), I really enjoyed soccer so I didn’t want to give that up but once I finished my first lacrosse practice, I quickly grew to love the sport. What part of the process was most surprising to you about the recruiting process and what would you like to pass on to those who are going to face it in the future? For me, the most surprising part of the recruiting process how much easier it is for players in the Northeast to be recognized by college coaches. For a player from Florida, it takes a lot more effort on the player’s part to travel to these out of state tournaments and get their name out there. My piece of advice for those wanting to continue their academic and athletic career into the collegiate level would be to start early. Just put together a well written email with your highlight tape, GPA, test scores, etc. and start sending that to the schools you’re interested in. Who would you like to thank for helping you get here? I would obviously like to thank my entire family for their support and allowing me to play this amazing sport. I’d also like to thank my school coaches, George Harris and Mike Derrenberger, for truly elevating my level of play throughout my high school lacrosse experience. Furthermore, I’d like to thank Coach Burton and Coach Crowley for putting together a list of great tournaments that allowed me to be seen in front of college coaches leading up to the end of my recruiting process.
