Tars Close Out Road Trip with Ninth-Straight Win
HICKORY, N.C. (March 25, 2018) – The 11th-ranked Rollins women’s lacrosse team ran out to a 5-2 lead and never looked back, making easy work of Lenoir-Rhyne to defeat the Bears by a final score of 15-6 on Sunday afternoon at Moretz Stadium. The win marks the ninth-straight for the Tars, and advances them to a record of 10-2 on the season, while the Bears drop to 4-7 overall. The Tars saw four goals from both Hannah Ashton and Kallie German, while German added two assists for a game high six points. Paige Brock netted two goals and one assist of her own, while Nikki Stumpf, Megan Cury, and Julianna Desimone scored a goal and assist each. Maggie Dougherty and Hannah Forbesearned one goal apiece, while Lily Rizk dished out one assist each as the Tars earned a total of seven assists on 15 goals. Hannah Ashton led the game with eight draw controls, followed by Taylor Kienle with four. Cury, Ottaway, Hannah Coakley, and Marina Longo totaled two ground balls each, while Ottaway led the game in caused turnovers with two. In goal, Malorie Olinfaced a total of 23 shots from the Bears, earning 12 saves for a save percentage of .667 on the afternoon. Olin allowed only six goals in the entire 60 minutes of action, including just two in the second half. The Bears were led by Cathleen Gaffney, who put up two goals and Lenoir-Rhyne’s lone assist for three points. Rachel Elmore, Frances Williams, Michelle Tang, and Gabby Sousa scored one goal each. Elmore led the team in draw controls with five, while Sousa led the game with four ground balls. Cassie Lafler, Emily Kessler, Madison Prkna, Williams, and Sousa earned a team best one caused turnover each. In goal, Ines Flueck earned the start, playing a total of 46:02 minutes between the pipes where she earned nine saves and allowed 14 goals, walking away from the game with a save percentage of .391. Paula Cortezano closed out the game in goal for the final 13:58 minutes, earning four saves and posting a save percentage of .800 while allowing just one goal. HOW IT HAPPENED:- First Half: Hannah Ashton put the Tars on the board first, scoring on a fast break at the 27:18 mark. Rollins increased its lead to two at the 24:05 mark as Megan Cury connected a feed to Paige Brock for the goal, but the Bears were not about to back down. Lenoir-Rhyne found the back of the net with 22:50 on the clock thanks to an unassisted goal by Gaffney, followed by a goal by Sousa off of a Gaffney assist just a minute later to tie the score at 2-2 with 21:51 to play. Rollins fought back, scoring three straight to take a 5-2 lead with 12:49 to go, and went on to outscore Lenoir-Rhyne 4-2 in the final 12 minutes of play to take a 9-4 lead at the break.
- Second Half: The Tars carried their momentum into the second half, scoring five straight to take a 14-4 lead over the Bears with 20:15 to play. Lenoir-Rhyne halted the Tars’ scoring streak and netted two consecutive goals to pull to within eight, 14-6, but a late goal by Hannah Forbes with 55 ticks on the clock closed out the contest with Rollins owning the 15-6 victory.
- Rollins and Lenoir-Rhyne have matched up 10 times since their first meeting on May 4, 2011. The Tars are undefeated against the Bears and own the all-time record, 10-0.
- The Tars entered into the week sitting 11th on the IWLCA Division II Coaches Poll, and sit 16th on the NIKE/US Lacrosse Division II Top 20.
- Ashton notched a new career best in draw controls in a game with eight, and currently sits tied for fifth in program history for draw controls won in a contest.

- Sophomore Maggie Dougherty has made her mark in career draw controls, moving into the Top-10 in program history as she as amassed 68 draw controls in her career. Dougherty sits 119 behind the program’s all-time leader, Erica Pagliarulo `13, with 187.
- German ranks first in the program record books for free-position goals scored, having earned 53 in her career, and also now leads the program in game-winning goals, with 14. The junior also ranks fourth for career goals scored with 132, fourth in career assists with 60, and sits third for career points scored with 192.
- Malorie Olin currently ranks second in program records for career saves with 440. She sits behind Elyse De Lisle `14, who amassed 463 in her career.
- Lindsay Van Beck has moved into third in program record books for caused turnovers in a career with 72. She sits 35 caused turnovers behind program leader Courtney Bianculli `13, who amassed 107 in her time with the Tars.
