Rollins Women: Tars Set for National Showdown with #3 Adelphi

COVERAGE: VIDEO:  Tars Sports Network STATS:   TarsStats.com IWLCA DII COACHES POLL: Preseason Poll NIKE/US LACROSSE DII TOP 20:  Week 1 – February 19, 2018 SET-UP: The Rollins women’s lacrosse team returned to their winning ways on Sunday afternoon at Cahall-Sandspur Field, using almost its entire 34 player roster to take down Lincoln Memorial by a score of 16-3.  The win advances the Tars to a record of 1-1 on the young season, and marks the sixth-straight home opener the Tars have come out on top with a win.  The Tars were given the nod at No. 11 on the IWLCA DII Preseason Poll, while earning the 14th slot on the NIKE/US Lacrosse Preseason Top 20. The top-ranked Adelphi University Panthers saw a 17-year streak snapped on Saturday when they lost  a high-scoring affair to second-ranked Florida Southern.  The program, which played its first year as a varsity program in 2001, lost its first season opener in program history as the Mocs took down the reigning National Champions by a score of 17-16 in Lakeland, opening up their 2018 season with a record of 0-1.  After winning their eighth national championship to conclude their 2017 season, the Panthers checked in at No. 1 on both preseason polls in 2018. TRACKING THE TARS: Two games into the season, the Tars have seen 13 different players notch goals so far.  Hannah Ashton is leading the way with four goals, followed by Paige Brock and Nikki Stumpf with three apiece.  Hannah Forbes and Kallie Germanhave earned two goals, while German leads the team in assists with three.  Maggie Dougherty has made an impact on attack, dishing out two assists of her own, while six more Tars have contributed one assist each.  In overall points, German leads the way with five, followed by Ashton and P. Brock with four apiece.  Dougherty and Sarah Neely have picked up a team best four ground balls, with Dougherty and Maddie Hendren, and Genia Sprinkle earning a team high three draw controls.  Once again wreaking havoc on opponents for the Tars’ defense is Lindsay Van Beck, who has totaled four caused turnovers so far this season to lead the team. Rollins has seen three different goalies step into cage so far this year as Sarah NeelyMalorie Olin, and Gabby Tannerhave all seen time between the pipes.  Neely has posted a save percentage of .538, earning seven saves while allowing six goals.  After 60 minutes played, Neely has a 6.0 goals against average, allowing six goals so far this year.  Olin has earned a save percentage of .533, having earned eight saves in 44:05 minutes played.  The senior has allowed seven goals, for a GAA of 9.53.  Tanner, who stepped in for the final 15:55 minutes in the Tars’ win over Lincoln Memorial, has not had to face any shots in her time on the field. TRACKING THE PANTHERS: After their season opening loss to Florida Southern, the Panthers are led in scoring by Michele Scannell and Kole Pollock with four goals each.  Lena Riportella and Alison Johnson have scored three and two, respectively.  Scannell and Johnson have each tallied a team best two assists, giving Scannell a team best six points.  Shea Weber, Kaitlyn Stackpole, and Hailey Peterson have each picked up a team best two ground balls, while Scannell leads the team with four draw controls.  None of the Panthers were credited with a caused turnover in their season opener.  In total, the Panthers saw a total of 18 players take to the field on Saturday. In goal, Emma Lemanski and Peterson split time in cage, with Peterson being credited with the loss after earning the start.  Peterson posted a save percentage of .100, facing 13 shots where she earned only one save.  After allowing nine goals, Peterson has a goals against average of 18.0.  Lemanski closed out the game facing 18 shots and earning eight saves for a save percentage of .500.  Allowing eight goals, Lemanski has a GAA of 16.0 entering into Adelphi’s second game of the season.     • Kallie German currently ranks eighth in program records for points in a career with 126.  The current leader is Tyler Thomas `16, who compiled 223 points in her career.
    • With her two goals last game, German has surpassed Cat Kelley `12, to sit ninth overall in program records for goals scored with 85.  The current leader is Tyler Thomas `16, who scored 195 in her career.
    • German enters into her junior season ranked fifth in program records for assists in a career with 41.  She needs three more to surpass Brittany Eveler `17, whose 43 career assists place her fourth in program records.  The current program leader for career assists is Katy Tyszko `11 with 85.
    • Lindsay Van Beck‘s two caused turnovers against Lincoln Memorial give her a total of 57 in her career, and vault her from sixth into fourth in program records.  Van Beck currently sits tied with Tor Snow `12, and needs three more to Surpass Erica Pagliarulo `13, who amassed 59 in her career.  The current leader is Courtney Bianculli `13 with 107.
    • Brenna Heaney enters into her senior season ranked seventh in program record books ranked seventh for career caused turnovers with 45.
    • Entering into her senior season, goalie Malorie Olin ranks second in program record books for career saves with 372.  She sits behind record holder Elyse DeLisle `14, who amassed 463 in her career.
