SSC Women: #5 FSC Women’s Lacrosse Beats #8 Tampa, 13-9

  via FSC press release   BOX SCORE TAMPA, Fla. – The No. 5 Florida Southern College women’s lacrosse team went on the road Wednesday night to face No. 8 Tampa, and came away with a 13-9 win. The Mocs are 3-0 on the season, 2-0 in the Sunshine State Conference, while UT drops to 3-1 overall, and 2-1 in the SSC. Sophomore attack Hailey Daleo had five goals to pace the Mocs, while sophomore Lizzy Lynch added four goals and one assist. Senior goalie Brittany Iamele made 11 saves, playing the second half for Southern. HOW IT HAPPENED 1st Half
  • Tampa got on the scoreboard first, scoring 92 seconds into the game.
  • The Mocs responded, as Daleo tallied back-to-back woman-up goals to propel FSC to a 2-1 lead.
  • After UT tied the score, the Mocs scored five unanswered goals, to take a commanding 7-2 lead. Daleo scored the first two, followed by sophomore Katie Yeagle, Lynch, and junior middie Maliah Benedetto. Three of those five goals were woman-up goals.
  • Tampa cut the lead to 7-5 before Lynch took a pass from senior Sarah Grady and scored her second goal of the game.
  • Grady would score an unassisted goal later in the half, for the 9-6 halftime score.
  2nd Half
  • Almost three minutes into the second half, Daleo scored what would eventually be the game-winner.
  • Lynch would score again, putting FSC up 11-7.
  • Consecutive goals from UT trimmed the score to 11-9, which was as close as the Spartans would get.
  • Marina Jozokos and Lynch would round out the scoring, for the 13-9 final score.
  • The FSC defense tightened up in the second half, limiting Tampa to just three goals scored.
  INSIDE THE NUMBERS
  • Tampa outshot Florida Southern, 34-32.
  • Each team had 14 turnovers, while FSC had 19 groundballs, to Tampa’s 18.
  • Tampa took six yellow cards on the night, resulting in six woman-up goals for the Mocs.
  • Florida Southern leads the SSC in goals scored, averaging 15.67.
  • Through three games, Lynch leads the team with ten goals, while Daleo is second with nine, and Jozokos third with eight.
  • Jozokos has a team-leading five assists.
  • Iamele has a 4.00 goals against average on the season, with a save percentage of .750.
