SSC Men: #1 Ranked Spartans Take Down #15 Florida Southern 22-7

LAKELAND Fla. – The No. 1 ranked University of Tampa Spartans men’s lacrosse team traveled to Lakeland to face off against the No. 15 ranked Florida Southern Mocs for their second away game of the year.

Tampa came out firing on all cylinders as the Spartans were able to take an early 4-0 advantage within the first few minutes of play. Senior transfer Ben French and sophomore transfer Daniel Fitzpatrick each scored two early goals for the Spartans as Fitzpatrick scored his first and second of the season. The Mocs scored back-to-back goals to open the second quarter and cut the Spartans lead down to four. However, two quick goals by Luke McAnaneyHear how to pronounce Luke McAnaney and Shane HanlonHear how to pronounce Shane Hanlon increased the Tampa lead. The Spartans were able to notch seven additional goals to going into halftime leading by 10. French led all scorers heading into the half with four goals. || Score: 13-3 Tampa


Within seconds of the start of the half, McAnaney netted his second goal of the night to open up the Spartans scoring in the third quarter of play. Scott Phillips and Bryan Wright quickly followed to score their first goals of the evening. Florida Southern was able to score two goals in the third quarter. || Score: 17-5 Tampa


Tampa continued their dominance on offense in the final quarter of play as five Spartans were able to net goals in the quarter. Florida Southern was able to net two goals, but it would clearly not be enough to slow down the Tampa offense. || Final Score: 22-7 Tampa
