German Notches New Program Best 10 Points in a Game with Seven Goals and Three Assists

WINTER PARK, Fla.  (April 14, 2018) – Earning an assist with 12:53 left in the second half, Rollins junior midfielder Kallie German tallied her 10^th point of the game, marking a new program record for points scored in a contest as she notched seven goals and three assists on the night.  German’s career night helped lift the sixth-ranked Rollins women’s lacrosse team to a 19-8 Sunshine State Conference win over Saint Leo on Saturday night at Cahall-Sandspur Field. The win advances Rollns’ record to 13-3 and 3-2 against Sunshine State Conference opponents, while Saint Leo drops to 11-4, and 2-2 in SSC play. German’s game-high seven goals mark the second time the season the midfielder has tallied seven goals in a game.  Hannah Ashton and Lily Rizk scored three goals apiece, while Maggie Dougherty tallied two goals of her own.  Megan Cury, Paige Brock, Eden Cooke, and Genia Sprinkle scored one goal apiece on the evening.  Dougherty matched German in assists with three, while Hannah Coakley and Cury dished out one assist each.  Dougherty led the team in ground balls with three, while Lindsay Van Beck, Brenna Heaney, Kaitlin Prince, Coakley, and Brooke Ottaway earned two ground balls each.  Dougherty also led the team in draw controls with a career best 10 on the night, while Van Beck notched a team best four caused turnovers.  In goal, Malorie Olin played a full 60 minutes, facing 19 shots and 13 shots on goal from the Lions and earning five saves while allowing eight goals. Saint Leo saw a team best five goals from Leslie Ferguson, all of which were scored on free position shots, while Katherine Larson scored two and Delaney Chrisco scored one.  The Lions did not earn an assist on the night.  Erin Davis led the team with eight ground balls, while Chrisco won a team best six draw controls, followed by Larson with four.  Both Larson and Kaylynn Purdy earned one caused turnover each on the night.  In goal, Davis played 51:48 minutes in cage, earning 11 saves while allowing 17 goals.  Rebecca Halley closed out the final 8:12 minutes, allowing two goals and not earning any saves. HOW IT HAPPENED:

• First Half:  Rollins found the back of the net first thanks to a goal by Rizk at the 25:51 mark, but Saint Leo answered back with two straight thanks to back-to-back free position goals by Ferguson to take a 2-1 lead with 23:09 on the clock.  Rollins retaliated with a goal by Ashton off of an assist by German to knot the scoreboard at 2-2 with 21:55 on the clock, but a gola by Larson with 20:19 to go in the half gave the Lions a 3-2 edge.  Rollins tied the game once more, with Coakley connecting a feed to Dougherty for a goal at the 19:27 mark, igniting a five goal run that saw Rollins pull out to a 7-3 lead with 5:34 to go in the period.  The Lions broke the Tars’ run with another free-position goal by Ferguson, setting the score at 7-4 at the 5:11 mark, but a goal by Rizk with 4:05 to go pulled the Tars back out to a four goal lead, 8-4.  Both teams traded blows to close out the first half with Rollins holding onto a 9-5 lead.
• Second Half:  Saint Leo opened up the second half with a goal just 42 seconds in, pulling to within three, 9-6.  But Rollins saw German score two straight to pull the Tars out to an 11-6 lead with 26:50 to go in the game.  Ferguson halted the Tars with yet another free-position goal at the 25:57 mark, but An unassisted goal by Sprinkle with 22:09 on the board pulled the Tars out to a 12-7 advantage.  The Lions scored one last goal, yet another free position goal by Ferguson with 18:21 left in the half to pull Saint Leo back to within five, 13-8.  But the Tars closed out the game with six unanswered goals, wrapping up their final home game of the regular season with a 19-8 lead.

  NOTES:

• Rollins now leads the overall series with the Lions, 8-1.
• When playing at home, the Tars hold onto a record of 7-1 this season
• When playing on the road, Saint Leo has earned a record of 5-2 on the year.
• When playing the Lions at Cahall-Sandspur Field, the Tars are 5-0 overall.
•  The Tars entered into the week sitting 8th on the IWLCA Division II Coaches Poll, and sit 9th on the NIKE/US Lacrosse Division II Top 20.
• Saint Leo entered into Saturday’s match-up not earning recognition on the IWLCA DII Coaches Poll, but ranked 15^th on the NIKE/US Lacrosse DII Top 20.
• Kallie German earned a new program best for points in a game with 10 (7 goals, 3 assists), as wel as notched a new program record for most shots in a game with 16.  This marks German’s second seven-goal game of the season.
• Maggie Dougherty tied a program record of draw controls won in a game with 10.  The sophomore is tie with Erica Pagliarulo, who earned 10 against Millersville on April 4, 2011, as well as Liz Connelly, who earned 10 against Mercyhurst on February 24, 2008.  Dougherty also tallied a new career best for points in a game with five, scoring two goals and adding three assists.
• Lily Rizk matched a career best in goals with three.
• Genia Sprinkle scored the second goal of her career at Rollins
• Career Records to Watch:
  • Hannah Ashton currently sits 13^th in program record books for career points (98), seventh in career goals (93), and 12^th in draw controls (63)
  • Sophomore Maggie Dougherty has amassed 84 draw controls in her career, placing her in eighth in program record books.  She has also dished out 30 assists, good for 11^th in program records.  She has also cracked into the Top 20 in overall points in a career with 69, good for 20^th overall.
  • Kallie German continues to climb ladder in program records, sitting in second in career points with 212, fourth in career goals with 143, fourth in career assists with 69, 18^th in draw controls with 42, 13^th in caused turnovers with 39, first in game-winning goals with 15, and first in free position goals with 58.
  • Malorie Olin is the program’s all-time leader in saves, surpassing Elyse De Lisle `14, who notched 463 in her career.  Olin now has 471 saves in her career, and also ranks ninth in ground balls, having earned 101 in her career.
  • Lindsay Van Beck has moved into third in program record books for caused turnovers in a career with 83, and ranks 17^th in ground balls with 74.
  • Brenna Heaney sits seventh in program record books for career caused turnovers, with 51, and 18^th in ground balls with 72.
  • Paige Brock ranks 12^th in program record books for points with 105, 12^th in goals scored with 79, and 15^th in assists with 26.  She also sits tied in 14^th with teammate Maddie Hendren for draw controls with 56.
  • Megan Cury ranks 19^th in program records for goals scored, having scored 50.
  • Lily Rizk has earned 44 draw controls in her career, placing her in 17^th in program record books.
  • Maddie Hendren ranks 14^th in program record books for draw controls (56), 14^th in ground balls with 78, and 12^th in caused turnovers with 40.
  • Haley Brock currently sits 20^th in the record books for caused turnovers with 28.
