Stetson (4-10 overall, 1-2 ASUN) earned its first ASUN victory of the season as the Hatters won for the second straight outing. “It’s good to get back-to-back wins,” Stetson head coachChristy Leach said. “I thought we came out a little slow today and I think we could have executed a bit sooner but I’m happy to get the win and hopefully start us on a good streak with two at home next weekend.” Merz, a senior, finished the game with three goals and two assists, giving her 159 career points. She entered the game tied with former teammate Lindsay Summers (2014-17) but the record was hers less than a minute into the game as Stetson won the opening draw and Merz scored the game’s first goal, moving her past Summers.   After Shelby Lehmann scored to make it 2-0, Merz and Karli Maguire scored back-to-back goals for a 4-0 lead less than nine minutes into the game. The Hatters were never seriously threatened after that. While Merz was busy breaking and adding to a school record, Riley Reagan was making some history of her own. The freshman tied a school record by finishing with seven assists, including six in the first half. Ten different players scored in the game’s first 30 minutes as the Hatters led 15-1 at halftime. Play slowed somewhat in the second half, but several Stetson reserves made a mark. Freshmen Marina Rotella and Sarah Flatt scored the second of their two goals on the day in the second half, and Sarah Trupp added her second goal of the season as well. Two days after dominating Delaware State (22-2), the Hatters once again held a significant edge on Sunday. Stetson out-shot the Bison (1-9, 0-4) by a 39-15 margin and had a healthy advantage in every other team stat category. Stetson goalies Liza Diamond and Kiera McCarthy split time for the second straight game. The duo combined to make nine saves, with five for Diamond. Natia Warren led Howard with three goals. The Hatters continue their four-game home stand when the host Kennesaw State, 5 p.m., Friday at the ATC.
