Tampa Jesuit Alum Stephano Mastro Named Mount St. Mary’s 2019 Co-Captain!

(October 31, 2018) – The Mount St. Mary’s men’s lacrosse program has announced that Daniel BarberJack ManganStephano Mastro and Zach Roberts were selected by their teammates as captains for the 2018-19 season. “As a leader in life, sometimes actions are more inspirational than words. Our 2019 team selected active leaders who are committed to the values and goals of our program,” said Head Coach Tom Gravante. “They are active leaders, not reactive, who are committed to leadership by example on and off the playing field. Not only are they outstanding athletes, but more importantly, strong students in the classroom. I am humbled and excited to work with Dan Barber, Jack ManganStephano Mastro and Zach Roberts as the 2019 player-elected team captains.” Barber, who sat out last season due to injury, will make his return to the field this year as a redshirt senior. The Edgewater, Maryland native has helped anchor the Mount’s defensive unit over his career, registering 59 ground balls and 30 caused turnovers in 39 games. As a junior during the 2017 campaign, Barber led the team with a career-high 16 caused turnovers and ranked fourth on the squad with 27 ground balls. Mangan has done it all for the Mountaineers on both ends of the field over his first three seasons, racking up 29 goals, 21 assists, 146 ground balls and 51 caused turnovers in his career. He was named to the Northeast Conference (NEC) All-Rookie Team in 2016, and followed it up with an All-NEC Second Team selection as a sophomore in 2017. This past season, Mangan led the squad with 21 caused turnovers and ranked second on the team with 50 ground balls. Mastro had a breakout season for the Mount as a redshirt sophomore in 2018. The Tampa, Florida native started all 14 games for the Mountaineers and registered 33 points on 27 goals and six assists. Mastro logged seven multi-goal efforts on the year, including a career-high five goals on a pair of occasions in contests against UMBC and Wagner. The attackman rounded out the season ranked second on the team in goals and third in points. Roberts enters his redshirt junior season as a vital part of the Mount’s defense after playing in all 14 games a year ago and setting new career highs across the board, while also contributing on the offensive end with a pair of goals and one assist. The defenseman from Fallston, Maryland will look to help anchor the team’s defensive unit once again in 2019.
