GAINESVILLE, Fla. – University of Florida midfielder Sydney Pirreca was named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week on Tuesday, as announced by the conference office.
Pirreca had a breakout game against No. 1 Maryland over the weekend, recording career-highs in goals (six), points (eight), and draw controls (seven) in a two-goal loss to the reigning national champions.
The junior also sparked Florida’s furious comeback in the second half, scoring three goals and assisting on a fourth during UF’s 5-0 run to close the game. Pirreca’s eight points were the most in a game by a Gator since Shannon Gilroy did so twice in 2015.
The No. 3 Gators are back in action on Sunday against No. 23 Loyola at Donald R. Dizney Stadium.
