Vero Beach 2018 Bridget Funk Commits to Bowdoin College!

Congratulations to Bridget on her college commitment and good luck in the future!   Name Bridget Funk High School Vero Beach Graduation Year 2018 College Choice Bowdoin College Club Affiliations Stickbenders Why did you choose this college? Bowdoin demands excellence in the classroom and on the field. What are your first memories of the sport? Driving 2 hours with my sister Maggie (Plays for Holy Cross) and mom to go to Stickbenders practice. We lived in Melbourne back then and I loved that time with them. What part of the process was most surprising to you about the recruiting process and what would you like to pass on to those who are going to face it in the future? No real surprises. You should be playing lacrosse for the love of the game, not so some coach will recruit you. Having excellent grades and test scores will give you many options for college. Who would you like to thank for helping you get here? First, I want to thank God for the opportunity to play lacrosse. Next, I want to thank Coach Dean for allowing me to be a part of the steep Vero lacrosse tradition and for preparing me for college lacrosse. Next, I want to thank my National Team coach, Mike Skonieczki, for his help during the recruiting process. Of course, I want to thank Coach Grote at Bowdoin for offering me the opportunity to play lacrosse in the NESCAC. Lastly, I want to thank my family for believing in me and pushing me to “battle” everyday in the classroom and on the field. Bridget is a member of the National Honor Society, a Vero Beach Scholar, a graduate of the National Student Leadership Conference at the Harvard Medical School and will graduate as an AP Scholar having achieved a perfect 4.0 in 12 AP courses. She is also a two-time National Team Member representing Florida at Lehigh and Yale and was an uncommitted Under Armour All-American. She will study biology and neuroscience at Bowdoin before attending medical school. Bridget considered many fine academic institutions before choosing Bowdoin.
