Florida Tech cruised to its second win of the season, 19-8, over Findlay at Panther Stadium

FIRST QUARTER:

  • Consecutive goals by Caroline MacLeod during a 34-second span opened the scoring in the game and gave Tech a 2-0 lead with 10:15 to go in the first quarter. 
  • Two more unassisted goals by Kayla Minton and Carly Niro pushed the Panthers’ lead to 4-0 with 8:23 remaining in the frame. 
  • Oilers scored three of the next four goals, two on woman-up opportunities, to cut the Panthers’ lead to 5-3 with 1:06 left in the first. 

SECOND QUARTER:

  • Back-to-back goals by Jennifer Boyle opened the second-quarter scoring and increased Tech’s lead to 7-3 with 12:11 left in the first half. 
  • After Findlay scored to make it a three-goal margin, Boyle tallied her third and fourth goals of the game to give the Panthers’ a 9-4 advantage with 5:28 to go in the second quarter. 
  • Oilers made it 9-5 with 1:14 remaining in the half but Rachel Johnson scored on a free position and then Millie Hurt found the back of the net with two seconds left, off an assist from Minton, to push Tech’s lead to 11-5 at halftime. 

THIRD QUARTER: 

  • Boyle got back to work early in the third quarter, scoring consecutive free position goals to give the Panthers a 13-5 lead with 9:34 to go. 
  • An Oiler free position tally cut the deficit to 13-6 with 7:32 remaining. 
  • MacLeod scored unassisted and then Minton tallied her third goal of the game, off an assist from Boyle, to hand Tech a 15-6 advantage heading to the fourth quarter.    

FOURTH QUARTER:

  • Minton’s fourth goal of the game came on an unassisted effort just 45 seconds into the final quarter to make the score 16-6. 
  • Findlay scored consecutive goals to cut the margin to 16-8 with 10:47 to go. 
  • MacLeod scored the final three goals of the contest, the last two coming off assists from Johnson and Boyle, to close out Florida Tech’s home-opening win. 

NOTABLE PANTHERS:

  • Jennifer Boyle led the Panthers with 8 points on 6 goals and 2 assist to go along with 2 ground balls and 2 caused turnovers.
  • Caroline MacLeod finished with 6 goals, 11 draw controls and 2 caused turnovers.
  • Kayla Minton recorded 5 points on 4 goals and 1 assist while collecting 1 ground ball and 1 caused turnover.
  • Rachel Johnson added 3 points on a goal and 2 assists. 
  • Carly Niro scored a goal and collected 4 ground balls and 3 caused turnovers. 
  • Kailee O’Brien had 4 ground balls and 3 caused turnovers.
  • Elizabeth Christ picked up 4 draw controls. 
  • Cailey Canessa earned her second career win while making 4 saves in net. 

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

  • Panthers doubled-up the Oilers in shots (32-16) and shots on goal (26-13).
  • Tech collected more draw controls (22-9) and ground balls (19-13).
  • Panthers were 10-12 on clears compared to 10-16 for Findlay.
  • Tech finished 6-9 on free position attempts while Findlay went 2-3.

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Jennifer Boyle’s 8 points are tied for 7th most in a game in program history. 
  • Boyle’s and Caroline MacLeod’s 6 goals just missed tying the program’s single-game goals record of 7 held by Mollie Kaplan (2019), Caroline Dunleavy (2017) and Allie Modica (2015). 
  • MacLeod’s 11 draw controls moved her into a tie for 3rd on the all-time single-game list, one short of the record of 12 held by Lauren Tybor (2018) and Sam Schiano (2018).

Panthers Roll to Big Victory Over Oilers

The Florida Tech women’s lacrosse team got their second win of the season on Wednesday, beating the Findlay Oilers 19-8 in the home opener at Florida Tech Panther Field.

After their win over Flagler on February 17, the Panthers picked up where they left off, with Jennifer Boyle and Caroline MacLeod each scoring six goals in Wednesday’s contest. That is one of the single-game record for goals. Kayla Minton made her presence known with four goals.

Allie Kasprzyk, Danielle Dilorenzo, and Izzy Murphy-Morrow all had two goals for Findlay, who falls to 0-1 on the season.
