Flagler Women: Saints’ high-powered offense blasts through Crusaders

ST AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Flagler College returned to the win column Wednesday night, defeating North Greenville 19-5 at the Flagler Lacrosse and Intramurals Field.

With the win, Flagler returns to .500 with a 4-4 record. The Crusaders drop to 2-6.

Flagler jumped out to an early lead, ending the first quarter with a 6-1 lead. Each goal was scored by a different Saint, with the fifth coming out of the stick of Somer White, who made her Flagler debut this evening.

The Saints’ offensive attack continued to have its way with the Crusader defense in the second quarter, posting another eight goals to send them into halftime with a 14-3 lead. At the break, White and Carly LaFerriere each had a hat trick, while Jordan Shughrue and Sydney Onega got in on the action with goals of their own.

White finished with four goals while Macy Schmidt added two in the second half. Kaitlyn BushKatie StubitsJordan GreenKenzie DillonMadison DazielKate Piscopo and Ally Miller each posted one goal. The 13 different goal scorers is a season-high for the squad. 

On the season, Shughrue paces the squad with 19 goals. Green is behind her with 14 and Piscopo and Daziel each with 13.

Defensively, the Crusaders committed 18 turnovers, with Flagler defenders forcing seven of them. Maggie Sorensen forced two, her third multiple caused turnover game of the year.

North Greenville recorded three goals as Emma Mayew had a pair from Kayla Harris.

Flagler welcomes No. 22 Saint Anselm to St. Augustine on Monday, March 14 for a 7 p.m. showdown.
