Flagler Women: Saints Rally to Pass in-region Test

ST AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Sydney Onega scored three of Flagler College’s final five goals to propel the Saints to a come from behind victory, 14-12, Thursday afternoon at Flagler Lacrosse and Intramurals Field.

Flagler returns to .500, improving to 5-5 while Wise falls to 3-4.

The Cavaliers ended the first period with a 2-0 lead, thanks to two goals in the final minute, a lead that would hold until the fourth quarter.

Flagler entered the fourth quarter down 10-9. The game was tied up for the first time since 0-0 thanks to a goal from Madison Daziel, her second of the afternoon at the time. From there, Onega took control of the Flagler offensive attack, scoring three consecutive goals to give Flagler their first lead of the contest to make the score 13-10. Wise scored a goal with 3:34 left to cut the lead to two, but Daziel added one more insurance goal with just under two minutes left.

Anna Day secured the Flagler win following an interception of a pass from Wise’s Abby Stoffelen and cleared the ball herself to seal the win.

Onega and Daziel each posted a hat trick, with the former scoring four goals and the latter three. Carly LaFerriere and Ally Miller each netted two while Kenzie DillonSophia DeSimone and Zoe Howe each contributed one.  Miller has now scored in three consecutive games.

As a team, Flagler was a perfect 26-26 on clear attempts and picked up 41 ground balls.

On the defensive side, Flagler caused 11 of the Cavaliers turnovers. Kaelyn Figueras forced a season-high three turnovers and picked up a trio of ground balls. Dillon forced two, corralled two ground balls and secured three draw controls.

Sydney Trask scored four goals and handed out one assist for Wise. Jordan Edwards saved a season-high 14 shots.

Flagler returns to action this coming Saturday for another matchup with a Northeast-10 opponent, welcoming Southern Connecticut State for a noon contest.
