FLN Boys Top 15 1A Poll – 2/28/22!

Okay, here we go with the Boys and we start with 1A. Keep in mind that the early weeks are fluid and when you look at the movement keep in mind that when key games get played certainly influences timing and position. There are a lot of key games this week that can change things quickly.

When you see a few teams that fell a few slots without losing, it’s most likely because the team below pulled off a big win and leaped them. Some of the top teams are more backloaded in their schedules too, so take that in mind.

Saint Andrew’s remains at the top as they continue to play a tough schedule AND take care of business. Last year’s runner-up, St. Edward’s, also continues to track that way.

Bolles and Oak Hall are examples of the latter and don’t be surprised if they get leaped in the coming weeks, until their late season tilts kick in. I’ll keep them here this week, but results from other schools will dictate that next week.

Benjamin takes a big leap this week, as they took out their 2A rival Jupiter, but they did suffer a relatively bad loss to SA. Oxbridge is undefeated and has Pine Crest and Jupiter this week.

Pine Crest rises after their SJP road win and SJP slips a few slots as they look for a few signature wins.

Jesuit falls some after their close loss to Lake Mary. Their schedule is good, but not great so they have to win the big games.

Montverde went to Ponte Vedra and gave them a tussle, while also taking down 2A Windermere. Their schedule is full of opportunities, as is Lake Highland, but LHP hasn’t played much yet. Maclay keeps grinding away.

Belen rose one spot but needs to avoid the pitfalls as their schedule isn’t rigorous.

Westminster Christian makes their debut in the Top 15 due to a 4-0 start and a road win at a solid 2A Columbus program. They will pretty much have to run the table to move up because their schedule is not near what many Southeast schools play, but congrats to them for continuing last year’s growth!

Cardinal Mooney overcame a bad Winter Park loss with two nice wins over area rivals.

Canterbury dropped out after a 1-2 start but has enough competition to make it back in down the line. Same with Episcopal of Jacksonville, while Holy Trinity will need to win just about all their games since they are just starting to take on a tougher slate. The Martin County loss was a surprise to me.

There were a few teams that have records to look at, among them Bishop Verot at 5-0, but their schedule just doesn’t hold up. This week with Gulf Coast is the best game on paper but the rest is not going to impress a power ranking, nor me.

And one last thought . . . right now 1A is FAR deeper than 2A.

  1. Saint Andrew’s (5-0)
  2. St. Edward’s (5-0)
  3. Bolles (5-0)
  4. Oak Hall (4-0)
  5. Benjamin (3-1)
  6. Oxbridge (6-0)
  7. Pine Crest (3-0)
  8. Jesuit of Tampa (2-1)
  9. Montverde Academy (3-1)
  10. Lake Highland Prep (2-0)
  11. Maclay (4-0)
  12. Saint John Paul II (1-3)
  13. Belen Jesuit (3-0)
  14. Westminster Christian (4-0)
  15. Cardinal Mooney (2-1)
