FLN Boys Top 15 2A Poll – 2/28/22!

Written by Lee Roggenburg on . Posted in , , , .

The Boys 2A Poll is different from the 1A because the depth of teams isn’t nearly as much and that will mean a LOT of moving up and down below the Top 10, and even 9 & 10 will likely see fluctuation.

The upset of Jupiter by Benjamin was the first shock in the 2A rankings and the rest of the Top 6 played their way up the poll. There’s plenty of time and meat for Jupiter to move up as they host SA, Oxbridge and Plant this week alone!

Plant gains the #2 slot with their 9-8 win over Ponte Vedra. Lake Mary is kind of laying in the bushes, and their schedule is spaced out nicely to allow them preparation.

St. Thomas is off to a good start but hasn’t faced enough yet to be slotted above the other schools. That will change if they win. But the overall schedule is a little weaker than normal.

Nease surprised Creekside and earned a two-place jump, while Newsome has started strong but has a mediocre schedule until Plant and Mitchell back-to-back later. Cardinal Mooney is the only decent first half game on the schedule.

Creekside’s record isn’t great, but the schedule was stout early, and the same can be said with Western-Davie. Mitchell moves up with a few impressive efforts and Windermere makes their debut. Windermere needs to show well against Winter Park, because their schedule in the second half isn’t going to help their power ranking.

Wellington jumps in at 6-0 with a schedule that doesn’t really get going until later. East Lake plays Mitchell tonight, so if this isn’t justified, we’ll know tomorrow, but let’s acknowledge a 5-0 start for a school I have not ranked before!

Gulf Coast is too early in their schedule to rank and would need a superior record given the schedule in the first half of the season. When you look at the rest of the Also Considered, you see teams that have shown something but need to accomplish more. Which is true of a lot of 2A!

Here’s this week’s Top 15 for 2A

  1. Winter Park (5-0)
  2. Plant (3-1)
  3. Ponte Vedra (3-1)
