FLN Girls 1A Top 10 – Week Ending 3/5/23!

FLN: Note that I tend to underweight games Florida plays out of state, and a number of schools played Georgia teams this past week. Head to head in Florida always gets more influence, as well as the complete portfolio of the season.

No need to think through 1-2 this week, as the two top teams met Friday night in Orlando, with American Heritage-Delray coming up with the 11-9 win. Round one to the Stallions, just like last season. No reason to think we won’t see this game again down the road in Naples.

AH-Delray’s 6-0 record is even more impressive when you note 5 of the 6 were lengthy road trips, including LHP, Bartram Trail, Ponte Vedra and Bishop Moore. They host St. Thomas on Wednesday before heading out of state for a pair of national contests.

Lake Highland sits at 5-1 and looks forward to its own national slate before a second half that includes Steinbrenner, Newsome and Hagerty.

Then it gets tougher.

Ponte Vedra held on for one-goal wins over St. Thomas and Episcopal School, and they face St. Augustine tomorrow. St Stephen’s kept winning, but their schedule looks a little weaker than before, but have a great game with a surprising Manatee this Friday.

St. Augustine is now 8-1 and faces a hefty second half of the season, including a two-day swing to the Panhandle this weekend, where Pensacola Catholic is looking for their own signature win. South Fork continues to impress and they host Jensen Beach and Pine Crest this week. Episcopal has a two-goal loss to Vero and the 1-goal to Ponte Vedra. Region 1 is setting up to be a heck of a Bracket.

Saint Andrew’s wants to show the Boys are not the only program at the school, at 6-1 with the only loss to AH-D, and welcome St. Thomas to Boca tomorrow. Pensacola Catholic’s game against St. Augustine is the best chance to prove they belong in the Top 10.

American Heritage-Plantation is 7-0 versus a weak schedule, which does not get much better, so I’ll need to see more first. Jensen Beach is 7-2, with the losses to Vero and St. Edward’s in close games. An important game under the radar is tomorrow when Edgewood goes to Viera, looking to make their own case.
