Valiant comeback by the Saints falls short in overtime

GREENWOOD, S.C. – Flagler College trailed 11-6 early in the fourth quarter and went on to score six-of-the-next-seven goals in regulation to tie the game, but lost in overtime 13-12 to Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference men’s lacrosse game Saturday afternoon at Van Taylor Stadium.

Lander improved to 8-4 overall and evened its Peach Belt record to 1-1. Flagler is now 4-8 overall and 0-2 in conference play. The Saints are idle until April 20 when they visit Shorter University.

Trace McDonald scored the first two goals to start the rally, and his third goal in that spurt with 19 seconds left tied the game at 12-all. He finished the game with three goals and two assists.

But Carter Wilcox scored an unassisted goal with 2:47 left in overtime to end the game.

Griffin Moore and Logan Tobias each scored two goals. Matt Mitrega finished with a team-high six groundballs. Nate Lehr had seven saves while Josh Stevens added four more.

Wilcox led the Bearcats with three goals and two assists. Zane Dalpe contributed two goals and two assists. Nolan Oakey had a game-high seven groundballs. Nicholas Paige tallied 16 saves.
