The Tar Heels are No. 1 in the preseason ILWomen/IWLCA DI Poll, earning 22 first-place votes.
There are familiar faces at the top, as the four Championship Weekend teams make up the top four. Maryland, with what is expected to be a top defense in the country, is at No. 2 and amassed two first-place votes. Boston College, which graduates Charlotte North but still returns immense firepower, is at third with three first-place votes. Northwestern brings back Izzy Scane after missing the 2022 season with injury, and the Wildcats are fourth.
