via JU press release

BOX SCORE

SPARKS, MD –  Jacksonville Women’s Lacrosse claimed their fourth win in a row on Sunday afternoon when they came from behind to defeat Cornell in thrilling fashion by a score of 10-9.

Taking to Tierney Field on the campus of USA Lacrosse’s headquarters, the Dolphins were immediately thrown into a defensive battle as they were held to their lowest scoring first half of the season.

A large amount of caused turnovers for both teams was the main theme of the half, with the Dolphins leading that category by a margin of four (7-3). Still the Dolphins would find themselves down by two heading into halftime, with the score reading 4-2.

JU would then come out of halftime struggling and Cornell would capitalize, extending their lead to four goals. Finally, with 9:51 remaining the ‘Phins would break through going on a run of six unanswered goals that extended into the fourth quarter, making the score 9-7 in favor of the Dolphins.

The Dolphins and Big Red would then trade goals in the final stages with Cornell claiming the last goal of the game with 4:24 remaining on the clock.

The final 4:24 was a battle, and while the defense stood tall Cornell would still find some decent scoring chances. That is when Paige Pagano stepped up to make two clutch saves down the stretch sealing the deal for JU, by a score of 10-9.

In the victory Lauren CraftMolly Brock and Madeline Cloyd all led the way offensively recording multi-goal games with two apiece. Grace Hobson was an assist machine on the afternoon with three total.

On the defensive end, Casey Sullivan had a great day recording two caused turnovers, three ground balls, and two draw controls. Kaila Stasulli and Lauren Phillips also added two caused turnovers each.

Paige Pagano received her third start in a row and was given the nod for the full 60 minutes. Pagano recorded the most saves in a game in her young Dolphin career with eleven and recorded a .550 save percentage.
