Keiser men’s lacrosse won a top-10 matchup in an epic battle this afternoon versus William Penn. The Seahawks were down by one late in the fourth quarter, but scored to tie the game and eventually won in overtime on a goal from Ryan Rundle

First Quarter
Keiser 5, WPU 2 

  • Both teams locked up early on, with neither team conceding a goal for the first seven minutes.
  • The first score of the day came when JP Prather got the first goal of his KU career, thanks to an assist from Vincent Cerasuolo.
  • Prather scored again 80 seconds later, unassisted. 
  • One minute after that, James MacGilvray scored his first goal of the season. 
  • The Statesmen broke the Keiser scoring run with two goals in a 20-second span.
  • Two minutes later, the Seahawks scored two goals in 18 seconds. (Matt Sheehy with an assist from Ryan RundleChris Rayburn unassisted)

Second Quarter
Keiser 8, WPU 7

  • The Statesmen got a quick goal 45 seconds into the quarter on a man-up opportunity.
  •   With 12:41 on the clock, AJ Badik scored a goal in a man-up situation with a Prather assist. 
  • Vincent Cerasuolo converted another man-up opportunity with an unassisted goal with 7:23 showing on the clock. 
  • William Penn answered with a goal of their own 12 seconds later, and another one with 5:23 on the board. 
  • 62 seconds later, AJ Badik scored with an assist from Marek Albiero
  • WPU answered with a goal 30 seconds afterward.
  • The Statesmen scored with just nine seconds left in the half to get within one with a goal. 
Third Quarter

Keiser 12, WPU 10

  • The Seahawks were able to quickly attack to begin the half thanks to Chris Rayburn faceoff victory, and JP Prather scored his third goal of the day with 14:24 showing on the clock. 
  • Kegan Hufford found the net unassisted 30 seconds later. 
  • Donovan Barnshaw scored his first Seahawk goal 22 seconds afterward with an assist from Braeden Niemy
  • The Statesmen answered with a goal yet again 50 seconds later. 
  • KU added a goal with 11:31 on the clock.
  • Up by four, the Seahawks played solid defense for nine minutes, but the Statesmen sparked a rally starting with a goal at the 2:01 mark in a man-up situation.
  • WPU got another goal to go with 1:32 left in the quarter.  
Fourth Quarter

Keiser 12, WPU12

  • William Penn got the first goal of the quarter with 12:56 to go in the game.  
  • The Statesmen scored again with 7:29 on the clock, and took the lead with another goal with 6:04 remaining. 
  • Needing a score, the Seahawks remained calm and eventually got the equalizer with JP Prather’s fourth goal of the day. 
  • The Keiser defense fended off the Statesmen for the remaining 2:35 of regulation. 
Overtime

Keiser 13, WPU 12

  • In a short but action packed overtime period, the Seahawks stood their ground on two William Penn possessions, and then took a timeout in Statesmen territory with 3:19 on the clock. 
  • After the timeout, the Seahawks executed a play that resulted in Ryan Rundle scoring the game-winning goal, courtesy of a Vincent Cerasuolo assist. 

KU Highlights

  • Keiser outshot WPU 51-37. 
  • KU turned the ball over 19 times. 
  • JP Prather logged his first career hat trick. 
  • Chris Rayburn went 12-16 on faceoffs. 
  • The ‘Hawks were nearly perfect on clears again, going 12-13. 
  • The Seahawks picked up 27 groundballs.
  • Keiser went 3-5 on extra man opportunities. 
  • This was the first overtime game for Keiser since March of 2022, when the Seahawks defeated then-No. 1 Reinhardt 12-11 in 2OT.
  • The Seahawks have now won nine consecutive games.
