BOX SCORE – Truett

CLEVELAND, GA –  Warner Women’s Lacrosse travels to Cleveland, Ga to start their 2024 season against Emory & Henry College and the Truett McConnell Bears.

The Lady Royals kicked off their second year of the program on the road where they first took on Emory & Henry College. The first goal of the year was scored by Abby Petrillo off an assist from Bailey Lightsey to get the offense rolling. E&H would return fire with a goal of their own in the 12th minute of the game to bring the game to a tie. Highly touted freshman Bailey Dykes had a phenomenal college debut as she would keep the Royals on track both on offense and defense as she would finish the game with five of the Royals nine goals, and eight ground balls. This matchup would go back and forth for the entirety of the game. The Royals would find themselves down just one point at half time where they would make the necessary adjustments to comeback and earn the first victory in program history. The Royals would shut out the Wasps in the third quarter, with two goals from Dykes, and another by Lightsey would prove key as it gave Warner the lead going into the final quarter. Thirty seconds into the fourth quarter the Wasps would find the back of the net to bring the game by one. Dykes would answer the Wasps goal, followed by two more from Bailey Dykes to extend the Royals lead by three. The Royals finished out the game on top to claim the very first Victory in the history of Women’s Lacrosse at Warner University led by head coach Corbett Day.

In Game Two, the Lady Royals took on the Bears of Truett McConnell in Cleveland, Ga. The Royals had a great game as they continued from their momentum after coming off their first program win. The Bears would kick off the scoring in the 10th minute of the game from a goal from Katie Smith, but the Royals would have an answer for everything the Bears threw at them, always staying ahead by the end of each quarter. Bailey Dykes had a monster game for the Royals putting up 20 shots and scoring on 10 with an assist, responsible for 11 of the 14 total points that Warner scored. Kaylin Brown finished the weekend with 15 saves and remains undefeated with a 2-0 record as they have an off week and look to take on North Carolina Wesleyan on the road in North Carolina.
