Lynn Men: Fighting Knights fall to Queens University 16-15

Savannah, Georgia – In this nail biter till the end, the Fighting Knights recorded four hat tricks, but lose to Queens University by one goal.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • In the first quarter, Mathew Ilchuck opened the scoring early for win. With an assist from Xander Cosenza at 13:41, the Fighting Knights went up 1-0.
  • After going down 3-1, Cosenza added a goal to his day at 7:08. Kaleb Cook assisted on the goal, putting Lynn within one.
  • With 3:55 left in the first, Cosenza recorded his second of the day to trail Queens University 5-3. Joseph Michalski had the assist on the goal.
  • On the power play, Michalski added a goal from Ilchuck to put the Fighting Knights within two with 1:39. The quarter ended 6-4.
  • In the second quarter, the Fighting Knights started strong out the gate with Matthew Canedo hitting the post.
  • Two minutes after that with 10:33 left, Ilchuck recorded his second goal, this one on the power play. Cosenza registered his second assist on that goal to put the Fighting Knights within one at 6-5.
  • Queens would add a couple more goals including one with a man up, to go up 8-5.
  • With 5:59 left in the second, Cosenza recorded a hat trick with his third goal from Daniel Luette.
  • With a man up at 4:11, Jalen Stanton put the Fighting Knights within one. Cosenza adding another assist for six points in the first half.
  • The Half would end with Queens University up 12-7.
  • Stanton added another goal at 13:11 in the third. Queens leading 12-8.
  • With 5:11 left in the third quarter, Cosenza tallied another goal, his fourth on the day.
  • The third quarter would end 13-9.
  • Michalski’s two goals in under three minutes into the fourth put the Fighting Knights within two, as well as giving him a hat trick.
  • Cosenza would record Lynn’s 12th goal of the game, putting the score at 14-12 with 10:39 left.
  • Ilchuck also recorded a hat trick on the man up with 6:50 left. Michalski added another assist to help Lynn to being down 15-13.
  • Stanton would tally Lynn’s fourth hat trick with 5:50, putting Lynn within one at 15-14.
  • With :31 left, Stanton recorded his fourth goal, but Lynn was not able to add another with time expiring.
  • Cosenza led the team with eight points (five goals and three assists).
  • Michalski was behind him with five (three goals and two assists).
  • Ilchuck and Stanton both tallied four points and hat tricks.
  • Cook recorded two assists in the game.
  • Colin Casey recorded 15 saves on 31 shots.
