HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Assumption struck first, but the Fighting Knights wasted no time in evening things up. Danielle Farinas found the back of the net just under five minutes into the game to knot the score at 1-1.
  • Assumption would score again to retake the lead, and the Fighting Knights would again answer. Diane Dohler took a pass from Isabella Clark and put it in the back of the net to even things at 2-2.
  • However, Assumption then scored four goals in the final 4:14 of the first quarter to take a four-goal lead into the second quarter. The run would extend into the next period, as Assumption added four goals and shut out the Fighting Knights to take a 10-2 lead into the half.
  • Less than one minute into the second half, Kristyn Johnson took a pass from Clark and found the back of the net despite being down a man.
  • Two minutes later, Sydney Hill scored off an assist from Lauren Dickson to get Lynn back within six.
  • Assumption would score twice to get the lead back up to eight, but Lynn would answer with goals from Johnson and Mallory Jarka to get the deficit back to six just over halfway through the third quarter.
  • However, from there it was all Assumption. The Greyhounds would score seven straight goals to open up their biggest lead of the game and put Lynn away for good.
  • Johnson and Hill would each score again late in the fourth, but their goals weren’t enough to spark a run for the Fighting Knights.
  • Johnson scored three times and Hill scored twice, while Clark added a team-high three assists.
  • Carolyn Stein had three ground balls, while Carly McNeil added two.
  • In all, the Fighting Knights were outshot 36-26.
