Rollins Men: Tars Down Rockhurst with Offensive Explosion

The No. 11 Tars traveled west to pick up a dominating, 22-8, victory over Rockhurst

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (March 19, 2022) – The No. 11 Tars traveled west to pick up a dominating, 22-8, victory over Rockhurst.  The Tars remain perfect, at 7-0 on the year, with Sunshine State Conference play on the horizon.  The Hawks fall to 3-3 in 2022.

Rollins was led by hat tricks Bailey PringleJustin White, and Finn Jent.  Pringle added a pair of assists for, a team high, five points.  Marshall Ellison netted a pair of scores, and dished out a pair of assists for four points.  Jack Johnstone tallied a team best three assists, and scored one goal of his own to also earn four points.  Thomas Garvin dominated the faceoffs, winning 21-29 with 14 groundballs.  Justin isenhour caused two turnovers, picked up two groundballs, and registered two assists.  Bradley Peterson made nine saves, allowing just eight goals, while Trevor Dorfman saw five minutes in relief efforts.

Alec Heflin scored a hat trick of his own to lead the way for Rockhurst.  Five other Hawks tallied one goal apiece.  Hayden Harris made 15 saves, while playing 52:50, while surrendering 20 goals.  Boomer Kubik played the final 7:10, stopping one shot and allowing two goals.

The Tars fired off 62 shots, putting 38 on target, far outpacing the Hawks 37 shots and 17 on target.  Rollins turned the ball over seven less times, while also winning the groundball battle by 10, on their way to victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter

  • Marshall Ellison and Bailey Pringle net the first two goals of the game.
  • Rockhurst would crack the scoreboard at the seven minute mark with an extra man goal.
  • Pringle fed Ellison for Rollins third goal, but the Hawks responded to keep it a one goal game.
  • Brett Wexelblatt muscled through his defender and bounced a shot into the top corner of the goal to give Rollins a 4-2 lead with a minute left in the period.

Second Quarter

  • Rollins started the second on a 5-0 run, giving them a commanding lead they would never give up.
  • Justin WhiteGrant HansenFinn Jent, and Jack Johnstone each found the back of the net for the first time, while Pringle tallied his second as part of the run.
  • Rockhurst tallied a pair to make the score 9-4.
  • White broke his defender with a right to left split before firing home the Tars tenth goal.
  • The Hawks responded with a late goal to make it 10-5 at the break.

Third Quarter

  • Rockhurst cut the Rollins lead to 10-6 with the first goal of the second half.
  • Rollins then went on a four goal run to pull away.
  • White completed his hat trick to open the stretch.  Ian Dean netted his first, followed by back-to-back scores from Jent.
  • Rockhurst stopped the run with three minutes on the clock, but Hansen ended the period on a positive note for Rollins with a goal to make the score 15-7.

Fourth Quarter

  • Pringle opened the fourth quarter with a goal. Wexelblatt then tallied his second as the Tars pushed their lead to 10, at 17-7.
  • Rockhurst tallied their only goal of the quarter with ten minutes on the clock.
  • The Tars closed the game on a five goal run; Justin Soencer and Connor Coltharp each tallied twice, and Dean capped the scoring with his second.

Rollins will return home to open Sunshine State Conference play against Embry-Riddle. The Tars and Eagles will faceoff on Saturday, March 26, at 4 p.m.
