The Tars jumped out to an early lead, and cruised to a controlling, 18-6, win, over Montevallo

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 19, 2022) – The Tars jumped out to an early lead, and cruised to a controlling, 18-6, win, over Montevallo.  The Tars stay undefeated, at 8-0 on the year.  Montevallo drops to 3-6.

Elaina Joyner scored four goals, and tallied an assist, good for a game high five points.  Caroline Bailey netted a hat trick of her own.  Overall, the Tars used a balanced attack, getting goals from 10 different players.  Ashley Goldstein and Charlotte Gastonguay each registered a team high two assists.  Sophia Schindel tallied three caused turnovers, while Lily Thornewill won, a team best, four draw controls.  Rachel Schlesinger made five saves, playing the full 60 minutes in goal.


Anja Kuys tallied a hat trick and a trio of Falcons each scored once to account for the Montevallo goal tally.  Kuys and Crystal Williams each earned four draw controls.  Rachel Rose got the start between the pipes, making nine saves in three quarters of play.  Mackenzie Griffin made two saves in a quarter of play.

Rollins dominated, taking three times as many shots as the Falcons, while committing five less turnovers.  The Tars collected 17 draw controls and 26 groundballs, helping them dominate the game from start to finish.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Quarter

  • Rollins jumped out to an 8-0 lead in the first 12 minutes of play.
  • Caroline Gastonguay and Ashley Goldstein each scored twice to highlight the run.
  • Montevallo got on the board with a pair of late scores, as the teams went to the first break at 8-2.

Second Quarter

  • Lauren Noonan started a four goal run with the first score of the second quarter.
  • A pair of Caroline Bailey goals on either side of an Ali Rogers score completed the run, giving Rollins a 12-2 advantage.
  • The Falcons pulled one goal back as the clock ticked under three minutes.
  • Elaina Joyner registered her first goal with just five second left before the half, to send the teams to the break with the scoreboard showing 13-3.

Third Quarter

  • Montevallo opened the half with a goal, cutting Rollins lead to 13-4, but that was as close as the game would get in the second 30 minutes.
  • The Tars closed the quarter with three straight goals.
  • Joyner completed her hat trick with back-to-back scores, before Caroline Bailey found the back of the net for the third time to close the quarter.

Fourth Quarter

  • The teams traded goals over the final 15 minutes.
  • Joyner’s fourth opened the scoring.
  • After a Falcon goal, Goldstein found Noonan for the Tars 18th score.
  • Montevallo tallied a goal in the final minutes, as Rollins sailed to an easy win.
