#14 Panthers Defeat Lynn for Third Straight Win

Florida Tech picks up a 16-14 victory over Lynn on the road

FIRST QUARTER:

  • Panthers jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead as Bennett Duffy scored just one minute into the contest off an assist from Collin Stewart
  • Stewart made the score 2-0 with an unassisted goal with 8:32 left in the first quarter. 
  • Lynn answered with a pair of man-up goals to even the game at 2-2 heading into the second quarter. 

SECOND QUARTER:

  • Tech scored three straight goals in less than a minute to open the second quarter and build its lead to 5-2. Chandler Hake got the run started with an unassisted tally before Zach Rozgonyi scored his first of five goals on the day on a man-up opportunity to push the lead to two goals. Griffin Martin then found the back of the net off a feed from Sam Sidari and the Panthers led by three with 13:14 to go in the first half. 
  • Fighting Knights responded with a 4-1 run to tie the game up at 6-6 with 3:48 remaining in the second quarter. Rozgonyi accounted for the Panthers’ tally during the run.
  • Rozgonyi finished off his first half hat trick to hand Florida Tech back the lead, 7-6, with 2:12 left on the clock. 
  • Martin scored his second of the game off a feed from Matt Gutmann to make it an 8-6 Panther lead with 54 seconds to go. 
  • Lynn got a buzzer-beater from Xander Cosenza to cut the margin to 8-7 as the teams went to halftime. 

THIRD QUARTER: 

  • Panthers outscored Lynn 5-2 in the third quarter. 
  • Rozgonyi opened the second half scoring off an assist from Stewart just second into the third.
  • Stewart, Ethan Tosheff, and Justin Williams scored consecutive unassisted goals to push Tech’s lead to 12-8 with 5:11 to go. 
  • After Lynn trimmed the margin to four with 42 seconds left in the quarter, Duffy answered 17 seconds later off an assist from Rozgonyi to hand the Panthers a 13-9 advantage at the end of the third.

FOURTH QUARTER:

  • Stewart increased Tech’s lead to 14-9 off an assist from Williams just 32 seconds into the fourth quarter. 
  • Rozgonyi scored his fifth goal from an assist by Nate Deplancke and Patrick Stewart added an unassisted goal to push the Panthers’ lead to 16-10 with 7:51 left. 
  • Lynn tried to come back from the six-goal deficit scoring the final four goals of the game, but it was too little, too late as Tech earned its third straight win. 

NOTABLE PANTHERS:

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

  • Tech finished with an edge in shots (42-38), ground balls (32-24) and faceoffs (26-7).
  • Panthers were 14-15 on clear attempts compared to 20-23 for Lynn.  
  • Tech went 1-5 on man-up opportunities while Lynn was successful on 3-6 tries. 

BEYOND THE BOXSCORE:

  • Zach Rozgonyi has now scored 5 goals in consecutive games and recorded at least 6 points in three straight outings. He moves into a tie for 5th in program history for single-season points with 40, while his 27 goals are 6th most in a season. 
  • Ethan Tosheff’s 20 faceoff wins are tied for 5th most in a game in program history, joining Lance Pavlina (April 4, 2018 vs. Lynn) and Travis Wunder (March 23, 2015 vs. MIT). His 13 ground balls today are also tied for 5th most in a single game, tying the marks set by Lance Pavlina vs. Mount Olive (Feb. 25, 2017) and Notre Dame de Namur (March 13, 2017).
  • Florida Tech improves to 2-0 in SSC play for the first time since the 2018 season. 
  • Panthers move to 6-3 all-time versus Lynn and 3-1 when playing in Boca Raton.

Fighting Knights Lose Physical Game to the Panthers

Boca Raton, Florida – After a hard fought game last week vs Newberry, the Fighting Knights were back to face conference rival Florida Tech.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Panthers jumped ahead 2-0 in the first two and half minutes of the first quarter.
  • With 5:41 left in the first Jalen Stanton scored Lynn’s first goal of the game. His goal was on the man up and was unassisted.
  • Caleb Wells tied the game with :38 seconds left in the quarter on the man up. Xander Cosenza had the assist on the goal.
  • Early in the second Florida tech tacked on three more goals to go up 5-2.
  • Cosenza added a goal to his assist on the man up with 11:20 left in the first half.
  • Colby Keefe put the Fighting Knights within one Matthew Ilchuk with 10:18 to go.
  • After the Panthers went up 6-4, Wells added two goals for the hat trick. Justin Berg had an assist on the first.
  • Before the first half would end, with Florida Tech up 8-6, Cosenza scored again to put the scoring at 8-7.
  • Just :42 seconds into the third and trailing by two, Tommy Ruddo scored for Lynn from Wells. 
  • The Panthers added three more before Cosenza scored his hat trick goal from Ilchuk with :42 seconds left.
  • With Florida Tech leading by five, Ilchuk scored two minutes into the fourth quarter to be down four goals.
  • Florida Tech led by six, but the Fighting Knights added four more goals before the end of the game.
  • Ilchuk scored his second goal, Cosenza scored his fourth from Ilchuk, Stanton added another goal from Ruddo, and Wells scored his fourth from Cosenza.
  • Cosenza had four goals and two assist. He also led the team with seven shots on goal.
  • Wells had four goals and one assist. He also added six shots on goal.
  • Ilchuk had two goals and three assists.
  • Stanton had two goals.
  • Ruddo had a goal and an assist.
  • Colin Casey had 17 saves on 33 shots.

#14 Panthers Topple Lynn

The Florida Tech men’s lacrosse team won their third straight game Saturday, outpacing the Lynn Fighting Knights 16-14. The win improves the Panthers’ record to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in the conference. Lynn falls to 2-8, and 0-2 in the Sunshine State Conference.

Zach Rozgonyi had a six-point day for the Panthers, scoring five goals and assisting on another. Collin Stewart finished with a hat-trick and two assists, while Griffin Martin and Bennett Duffy each tallied twice. 

Xander Cosenza and Caleb Wells each had four goals for Lynn while Matthew Ilchuk had a five-point day with two goals and three assists.

Colin Casey took the loss for Lynn, allowing 16 goals while making 17 saves. Florida Tech goaltender John Hulsman, who has started every game, made 13 saves in the victory.
