Saint Leo Closes Regular Season on a High With a 20-10 win over Lynn

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men’s lacrosse team closed out the regular season in style with a 20-10 victory over Lynn University.

The Lions now move to 9-6 after the win.

In the first quarter, Ryan Marek put the Lions on the board 1-0 less than a minute into the game. This was the start of early momentum for a dominant Lions performance.

In the second quarter, Adem Tekmen got on the board to extend the Lions’ lead.

The Lions roared into halftime carrying an impressive 10-3 lead which had Lynn University rattled.

Coming out of halftime, the freshman, Greg Palmer who has been a shining light for the Green & Gold got scoring early.

Heading into the fourth quarter, the Lions held a 14-9 lead after Lynn gained back some momentum.

The late push was not enough for the Knights as the Lions would score more and finish on top 20-10.

Michalski Scores Three, Lynn Loses to Saint Leo

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Senior Joseph Michalski scored three goals as the Lynn University men’s lacrosse team endured a 20-10 loss at Saint Leo, Saturday. The loss ends the season for the Fighting Knights at 7-9 overall.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED:
– Saint Leo jumped out a 10-3 halftime cushion and outscored Lynn 10-7 in the second half
– The Lions connected on two goals early in the third quarter as they extended their lead to 12-3
– The Fighting Knights then snared the momentum by using a 6-1 scoring run that pulled them to within four at 13-9
– Senior Thomas Murray started the run with an unassisted goal at 7:49 in the third
– Michalksi scored back-to-back goals at 7:16 and 4:32
– Graduate student Stephen Becker then scored twice and junior Connor Koppelman scored once as Lynn pulled to within four late in the third
– Saint Leo rebounded with the final goal of the third quarter and outscored Lynn 6-1 in the fourth to set the final at 20-10
– Senior Ethan Yorio scored the Fighting Knights’ only goal in the fourth with 5:25 remaining
– The Lions outshot the Fighting Knights 59-36 and held a 43-32 lead in ground balls
– Saint Leo won 22-of-33 faceoffs
 
FIGHTING KNIGHT STATS:
– Michalski finished with three goals and two ground balls
– Becker scored twice with four ground balls
– Murray (two goals), Koppelman (one goal, one assist) and sophomore Dylan Colon (one goal, one assist) each finished with two points
– Sophomore Camren Santos won six faceoffs and scooped up five ground balls
– Graduate student Colin Casey stopped 16 saves, his eighth game this season with 10 or more
