TAMPA, FL. – The No.15 ranked University of Tampa Spartans women’s lacrosse team dominates conference matchup at home

INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

Final: University of Tampa Spartans 20, Florida Tech Panthers, 4

Records: #15 Tampa (7-6, 3-1 SSC), Florida Tech (8-3, 1-3 SSC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

First Quarter
After an early goal from the Panthers, the Spartans would open the first quarter slowly. Just minutes later, Cece Colombo found the back of the net after connecting with Julia Kolderman to tie the game. The first quarter would prove to be a battle between the evenly matched teams. The Spartans gained their first lead of the game after Lizzie Pierpont netted her second goal of the game with just under 10 minutes left in the first. The Spartan offense took off from there on, and headed into the second quarter with the lead. The Spartans scored as follows:

10:36 – Lizzie Pierpont, assisted by Cece Colombo

Second Quarter
The Spartans would open the second quarter by carrying over their momentum from the first. Colombo connected with Olivia Mott four minutes into the quarter to open the scoring for Tampa. Emma McLoughlin finished off her hat trick as the Spartans’ offense continued to roll. Tampa would head into the half with a commanding lead. The Spartans scored as follows:

08:07 – Madison Birch, assisted by Brynn Nestor

Third Quarter
The third quarter opened similarly to the second quarter, with the Spartans dominating on offense. Colombo netted her second of the game following Birch‘s second to open the scoring. McLoughlin netted her fourth of the game as the Spartans cruised through the third quarter with ease. The Spartans scored as follows:

The fourth quarter would begin similarly to the first three, with the Spartans offense asserting their dominance. The Spartans scored as follows:

Florida Tech Stumbles at No. 16 Tampa

FIRST QUARTER 

  • Charlotte Hardie scored just 63 seconds into the game to put the Panthers up 1-0. 
  • Kayla Minton found the back of the net with 11:07 to go in the quarter to hand Tech a 2-1 lead. 
  • Tampa took control of the game from there and outscored the Panthers 7-0 the rest of the first quarter. 

SECOND QUARTER:

  • Spartans tallied five unanswered goals in the second to push their lead to 12-2 at halftime.

THIRD QUARTER: 

  • Tampa added five more goals in the third to increase the margin to 17-2 entering the fourth. 

FOURTH QUARTER:

  • Spartans scored the first three goals of the fourth quarter to make it 20-2 with 7:57 to go. 
  • Kasia Lorenc tallied a goal with 4:39 remaining to bring the margin to 20-3. 
  • Kylie Morris scored with 35 seconds to go to make it a 16-goal differential at the end of regulation.

Tampa WLAX Tramples Florida Tech

The No. 16 Tampa Spartans made it look easy with a 20-4 home win over the Florida Tech Panthers on Wednesday, in a Sunshine State Conference women’s lacrosse tussle. 

The loss was the Panthers’ second straight, dropping them to 8-3 overall, and 1-3 in the Sunshine State Conference.

Lizzie Pierpont and Emma McLoughlin scored four goals each for the Spartans and Julia Kolderman had a hat trick. Cece Colombo and Madison Birch scored two goals apiece as the Spartans kept the pedal to the floor throughout.
